Single or Twins...Hmmm

I have been thinking about a turbo upgrade lately and I've noticed lately that most guys are going for a larger single turbo (sp 66 for example), while before everyone wanted a twin turbo setup.

Now obviously price is big considerations...........but is there really that big a benefit for twins on these 3rd gen, being at it would a on-road truck versus a full sled/drag race truck? Or is the whole twins thing a "small man's complex" thing?

Contact Piers he has them on his, I think his truck is in the neiborhood of 650hp?
I havent heard of anyone complaining about their twins or them not doing the job they were designed to do? Being 6'3" @ 230 I dont really understand the "small man complex" is it somthing a short guy with no money gets?

Twins still have their place, but it is slowly getting smaller and smaller. Some of this is due to better singles and some is due to better marketing by vendors whether their singles are very good or not. Twins are about instant spool-up (if they are built right), which you will never get with a big single, and air...not to be confused with boost. The air density from dual stage compression can't be touched by any single. Plus, twins are much tougher by design as the top turbo that takes the brunt of the abuse will have a lot less rotating mass than a big single, and on top of that, will only be worked to half of its designed potential.

However, if you think back, big singles like the SP66 and SPS66 are head and shoulders above any single that was available just two years ago. New technology has made some of the new singles absolutely awesome and for most, twins are not needed anymore to reach their goals. With these big singles being so affordable and doing such a good job, it is hard for most to bite the twins bullet, and for others it is not even necessary. There will always be a place for twins, but the scenarios where they are needed have definitely gotten fewer. I can promise you this though, once you own a good set of twins, you will never want to run any single again.

AK RAM,

That's pretty much what I was thinking was going on.

As for the small man's complex.......Do I really have to explain what it means.....
