"shift kit" for 48RE?
I have a buddy with a '98 CTD/47RE truck and he said he installed a "shift kit" which included some new springs and required some drilling in the valve body. Took most of the day to do it but it only cost like $40. Said it improved his shifting greatly. Is there such a thing for a 48RE?

I like this kit better than Transgo, better directions for beginner and all bits/guides included. Well worth the extra $$

Thanks guys. I don't see pricing for the TransGo. By RickCJ's response it would be less than the $199 of the SMRTrans kit, but for that money I'd be tempted by a new valve body at ~$400.
What do you guys think?

Just remember you get what you pay for! I don't bargain shop when I'm building my stuff, I do it right the 1st time!

tslewisz, For $400 you get the $199 valve body kit and someone else does the drilling and positioning the ***** and springs and plates. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to get it done...longer by yourself. The $400 requires your valve body as a core. Hopefully you get more valve body kit opinions. Most of the big tranny companies sell the kits, ATS, etc. ks

Transgo is good but SMR goes a step farther.
If you are mechanical get the shift kit and do it your self, you can change things to suit you. If not just get the valve body so you won't screw any thing up! This is the brain of your trans 1 wrong thing can toast your tranny.
