A great choice and probably the best battery you can buy, not cheap. They have the same size as stock (forgot the group number) but they can tell you at the store I'm sure or you can search this forum.

 

Diehard Platinum P-2. Group size 65.

two diehard platinum group 65 batteries have the same amp hour reserve and weigh the same as three group 34 optima red tops!!!!!! the optima's are good batteries the die hards are great batteries.

 

The DieHard Platinum's are Odessy's with a Sears brand.. but they are way to proud of them (despite being much cheaper than the Odessy branded ones)... My stockers have done me great for 5 years, so its hard to justify the cost of 2 Platinum's... Probably will run Blue Top Optimas for 1/2 the price.

 

My redtop Optimas were $99.00@ Costco for my '98.5 years ago. They're not a whole lot cheaper than the Sears Platinums anymore acording to a couple of sites I looked at. My stockers lasted five years on that truck,but the Optima's outperformed them by far.

 

We just replaced them on three of our work rigs. Napa legends 75 so far they have been great and were pulling power amps out the gazoo on on the ranch truck.

We paid 95$ a batt 880cca and I think 1050or something like that.

 

I see that the optima's have gone way up in price... Its really hard to justify over $150 a battery when my stockers are almost 6 years old and going strong, they are only being replaced this fall becuase they are old, they show no signs of fatigue.

But since my truck isn't a DD anymore and thats hard on batteries I will probably go Optima or DieHard, if they are within $30-40.

 

I use Duralast from Autozone as a factory replacement. All the published tests I could find put Duralast, Diehard, and Interstate as the top 3 year after year. Out of the three, Duralast is usually cheaper, and easier to find.

Optima rarely hits the top 5.

 

I replace the OEM's with the Platinum P1 series. Smaller than the stock replacement P2 but still has more CCA than the OEM's.

I went with the Napa Legends as well.Very happy with them and about half the price of the Die Hard Platinums.Same warranty too.

 

I'm past 6 years on my stockers.

 

I went with the autozone duralast gold's for my truck. They have been working great. I did spend the cash for a group 31 Sears Platinum for our camper. It is a great battery with incredible performance.

 

Optima Batteries are not what they used to be. I had a set (2) in my landcruiser that was not driven all the time, and they lasted 9 yrs. I read too many people having issues with newer Optimas not lasting more than two to three years. I recently replaced them with a P2 Diehard Platinum, not much of a price difference than Optimas.

If you don't need or want a drycell battery, there are many choices. If you want a performance drycell battery, I would recommend the Diehard Platinum P2.

 

I wonder when they will come out with Lithium Ion batteries for trucks.
