Angry Scotty Ram Air III Install Problems

Just got this in from DTR Online Performance Shop. Myself and two mechanic buddies tried to get the sensor mount coupler into the end of the filter with the end cap on, AND IT WILL NOT GO. In fact it takes two sets of hands to get the rubber end of the filter into the end cap. This thing is a nightmare, there has to be an easier way or I am getting something else. I don't want to get 2-3 people together to change a **** air filter.

Did you get the instructions ? I ordered mine from DPP and got none. Took me a while to figure out hot to get it installed. Had to stop mid stream, go to the computer, and start searching through archives to find some answers. However, I didn't have the sensor problem that you are having.

Its a great product, but the install was the major gripe I had against it.

I have the instructions, we inserted the sensor tube into the filter end with the end cap on it, and two of us tried to shove the end cap down, but no luck. We are afraid we are going to collapse the filter or break the plastic end cap. We had easily over 200 lbs. of pressure on it.

Thanks,
Eric

The end cap is about as thick as a paper plate, no room to ream it out, drill, or anything. I hate to cut on the rubber on the filter to thin it down, there is no way to get the thickness uniform.

PM me and we will get this resolved. I will call, walk you through the assembly and I bet theres one of those parts is going on in the wrong sequence.

Edit:
Put the end cap on the sensor coupler, then insert the coupler INSIDE of the filter end and clamp tight. Then take the filter with end cap and coupler and place it inside the housing with the filter end seated in the cone at the other end.

Whislinmutha you and your peanut gallery of mechanics MUST be missing something!! I am no tech and installed my scotty 3 in a matter of 5 minutes, it could not have been any easier, and NOTHING required a lot of force.. Talk to scotty, there HAS to be something you're missing! Good luck with it, you will enjoy it once it's on!

Well here is the boat that my "peanut gallery" of mechanics work on. If they can keep from killing Steve, I trust them.

I tried several ways, placing the end tube on to the sensor tube, pushing the sensor tube into the filter, and then trying to shove the end tube over the rubber lip (which encloses the sensor tube) works the best, but still will not go without breaking something.

Thanks,
Eric

I truly want to find a way to make this filter work.

Just got it (thanks to Scotty). The instructions say "slip the end cap over the sensor mount coupler and then slip it into the filterand tighten the clamp."

What it should say is "first, place the loosened worm clamp on to the filter lip. Next, place end cap onto sensor mount tube, and push sensor mount tube into filter end. The worm clamp should be on the rubber filter end, and covered by the end tube. Turn the sensor mount tube to where the sensor block is 180 degrees from the worm clamp screw, and tighten worm clamp. Slide into filter housing etc..."

The instructions are a little vague, but thanks to Scotty I have the install done.

Thanks,
Eric
