Schaeffer 9000 Is Cj4+ Is It Ok In 5.9 ?
I would like to add to my previous post - we are talking premium synthetic oils when considering Schaeffer and Amsoil and both CI and CJ oils will have excellent antiwear additive packages.
Schaeffer's still had a few cases of the CI-4 left about a month ago. I don't know what they have left now, as I haven't been buying oil without a running truck. You'd have to ask your rep specifically for the CI-4 oil though, if there is any left.
I talked to the Schaeffer's tech department about the CJ oil though as I was concerned about the changes. They told me that while the exact mix was changed, I could be assured that it would hold up just as well as the CI oil did and offer the same protection and extended drain intervals. When I questioned the drop in TBN of the virgin oil, the tech guy told me that the mix now has more POA in it...a lot more, and that while the CJ's TBN may start out lower, it will not drop as fast as the CI did, thus maintaining TBN for extended drain intervals. To me, the CJ seems like a better oil with all the extra PAO in it.

I have been using Schaeffer's oil for the last 10 years in everything I have from backhoes, tractors, all of the lawn equipment and my daily vehicles. My current truck has 265,xxx and was switch @ 25,000 mile and has the oil changed every 10,000 miles with a sample pulled every 3rd oil change with no problems, truck does not use any oil in between oil changes and runs great!!! Ialso changed over the diffrentials @ 25,000 miles and change them every 100,000 miles and I put a quart of rear end grease in the tranny to over refill the tranny. no problems yet!!!! Not a salesman just a very pleased customer!!! That is my take on this oil for what it is worth to
