SBC Sprung Hub DD review
SBC Sprung Hub DD review
Well I have been drivin around with this clutch for a while now and I must say I am impressed. But as a disclaimer I also must say this is the first aftermarket clutch I have ever even driven or been around much less bought, so you may want to take what I say with a grain of salt.
1st and reverse no hop, at least not yet, but I am sure if you wanted it to it would. With the right load in the right circumstances my stock clutch would "buck" when tryin to back up in some places so it stands to reason that this clutch COULD too but I have not been able to get it to.
I have no problems getting it into gear, reverse is kinda funny sometimes but it was kinda funny sometimes with the stock clutch.
Pedal pressure is definately increased and it suprised me the first time I stepped on the clutch, however what suprises me even more it the fact that I dont even notice it now. Had I know I would adjust this quickly to it I would consider a 3850 just simply because it is the same price and it stands to reason bigger is better. Right? I also drive 4 or 5 other vehicles at work that are all manual trans vehicles from a 91 F150 to a 8? F600 to a 05 F350 and I do not have to adjust to the pedal pressure from my dodge to them. Not that it isnt differant, I am just used to it. But I will admitt that the first time I got out of my dodge and into the F150 I almost kicked a whole in the floor but after about 2 or 3 days I didnt notice the pedal pressure anymore.
Never heard a rigid hub DD before but this thing sure seems quiet to me. Sure I can hear it but I would venture to say that unless you own an 05 dodge with a G56 with a factory clutch you wouldnt notice it. It doesnt seem out of place it just kinda sounds like a diesel truck, kina like the older 24valves. I dont want it to seem like it is silent but it is pretty quiet. Again, never heard a rigid DD.
I am sure there is more that I forgot but please feel free to ask any and all questions. That is why I started this thread, because I know a lot of people are interested in this clutch but can not find any "real world" info.
I almost went with an OFE but even though this clutch was a good bit more $ I am happy I stepped up. And I haul livestock from time to time and that is why I didnt want on FE.
As far as just bein nice and pleasant to drive (not taking into account pedal pressure, this is clutch related only, as this would vary from person to person based on physical build and ability) if a stock clutch is a 100 on a scale of 1-100 I would say this clutch is a 95. The only reason it doesnt get a 100 is because it will hop taking off in second gear with no throttle. BUT I am gonna do some 3rd gear burnouts and launches and see if this helps along with just good old fashion gettin it broke in better.
I also got to give props to Peter who has helped me with this more than most other "vendors" would have and that speaks volumes to me on the type of company that SBC is and the type of person Peter is. He even offered to help me on the initial install (over the phone as he is several states away) on a Saterday. And I know I have said it multiple times but Peter thanks again.
So come on guys (and gals) what kinda questions and comments do ya got for me?

So how does it compare to a rigid 3850 DD ???? Huh?!?! Well!?!? Tell Me!
Seriously though, this thread was a good idea an dI am very excited to pick up my truck on Friday. I will be able to fill in the blanks with the comparison between the two. I know what you mean about the pedal pressure. At first, you are thinking you need to invest in a bionic leg, but the next thing you know, it seems like it's a factory clutch.

Wow, I just looked at how long that write up was. I think that is the most I have typed since college. No wonder my keyboard was smokin.
Yeah, D you are the missing link between me and the rigid guys. I look forward to what you have to say.

Yes, that was quite a lengthy write-up; one of the longest I have seen on here, but a very good one. I hope to contribute as much info as you have.
It is definitley a step in the right direction for street vehicles with high HP. I am very happy with mine. I have logged about 9,000 miles on my sprung hub and have towed, pushed snow, 3rd gear launched it and just flat out beat it.
I love it. No chatter and better street manners than man FE had

Shoot, I just got a transmission jack from a tool rental store, cost me 22.80 and about 6 hours later I had my clutch in.
I dont have many and I dont know if any of them are worth posting or not but I got a couple of pics I should post.
I also drove my truck up on about 6-8" of foam to get it off the ground and make it easier to work on. Yeah I know its pretty redneck but you do what you gotta do.

what's this sprung hub?
something new?
I put in a DD street version about a year ago
its noisy to say the least , and yes I have a fluid dampr
did they come with a DD that has springs to cushion vibration and noise?

I guess I have mixed feelings about this
its great they finally made one to cushion the vibe
it sucks that they are about a year late. I just spent a ton on my clutch and not real happy with the noise
