Sand balancing tires.

Heard about a product similiar to sand which you introduce to the chamber of your tire,as rotation occurs the product self applies itself where needed.Would make wheel weights obsolete, and im all for that.Sounded kinda nifty to me,wondering if any one here can shed some light.Thanks.

Due to the self inflicted butcher job I did on my H2 wheels, no one could balance my tires until I used the ceramic beads. Now they ride like glass. One benefit is that these beads also compensate for any small imbalance in the axle/hub/brake assembly on each wheel.

I would guess that sand would work, but it may be a little abrasive on the inside of the tire. It also may not move to the spot on the tire that needs to weighted as easy as the round beads.

If you do this, you will need special filtering valve cores. You can order these from innovativebalancing.com for under $5.

I had this done on my dodge with 38" baja claws on it. The tire shop did this as a last resort because the tires were out of round so bad that they couldn't put enough weight on the rims to balance out the tire. They really didn't recommend it unless you cant get it done with weights.

deezulsmoke. They probably said that because it would take their business away. Anyone can install the beads but it takes a little time. We have found the best way is to have the tires off the truck, slightly at an angle so their valve is sticking straight up/down. Heat the valve first with a hair dryer or heat gun. Then slowly start pouring their beads in with their applicator with no dryer. It took about 10 minutes per tire doing it this way. Without using the dryer, about 1/2 hour each tire. It would stick to the valve and you would need to keep tapping the valve to have them pour in. Any moisture and it clogs pretty fast.

My weights would hit my calipers so I went with the beads and will never look back from now on. Just buy about 1 oz extra per tire as that is what my last 3 sets of tires have needed for our different vehicles.
