S&B installed and turbo ???

I just installed a S&B intake on my 05 and removed the silencer ring. There is way more turbo sound now. Love it!!! When I took the silencer ring out I felt the turbo and there is some shaft play. I am wondering if this is normal or something to worry about? The sound of the turbo and intake is just awesome though. Thanks.

I would describe the play to be side to side or making the compressor wheel go towards the housing. The wheel doesn't touch the housing but it does have some play. Any ideas??

That's normal. Even new you can wiggle the shaft.

When the engine is running and the oil pressure comes up supposedly the play goes away.

The gap gives the oil a chance to make a liquid bearing. Front to back is not too good. That means the thrust bearing is going out. That takes out seals.
