I've been getting lots of PMs about the 285 Dura Grapplers I'm running on my truck. I really like the tires and they "seemed" to be holding up great. I decided to check my tread depth this morning and was amazed at the results.. First off let me say that my truck is stock and I don't go around spinning wheels all day long. Anyways, brand new these tires have 18/32nds tread depth. I measured my fronts and they are at 16/32nds which was not bad since I have 8000 miles on the tires. My surprise came when I measured the rears which are down to 12/32nds!! I had this problem in my new 92 CTD where the rear tires wouldn't last for crap but the fronts always looked great. So, I will be rotating them by the weekend and keeping an eye on them from now on.
I still really like the tires, and I'm sure I'll get many miles out of them. I just thought it would take many more miles before I started seeing this kind of wear. I have hardly towed at all and I haven't really hauled anything of any significance for any kind of mileage either....

Well, I have a brand new one on my spare so after I look at it I agree, it's amazing the difference with just 8000 miles on them. Oh well, I'll put the rears up front and they won't hardly wear for the next 8000 miles.....
Well I'm loving mine, but I'm getting some noise, like I have mudders on my truck...and some vibration. I don't know if its the tires or the wheel bearings but you can definitely hear them. They're wearing great...

I noticed the same with the Toyo's during the first 5k miles. After dropping the rear tire pressure down to 40psi and changing the SMARTY torque management to stock from mild the wear decreased greatly. Went another 5k miles before rotating.

Running the proper tire pressure is the key to long and even tread wear. When running over sized tires the pressure needs to be reduced and the rims need to be the correct width. Mickey Thompson and Dick Cepek are very good tires.

been totally happy with my nitto's. it may have to do with load rating? mine are d rated, was your e? i crank them up to max air pres. have about 20k on them and looks like i have about 8k left. not the best in the snow, but not bad either. will buy the same again. have friend with the cepek atz's and he said he will not buy again. he complains about wear........air pres.? lift? i think many things are to be considered.
I was going to say, to much air in the rear tires. You probably have alot more of center wear because only the center is carrying the load, if you let out air so that the entire rear tire is contacting the pavement, then you'll have much better traction, heat transfer and wear. I'm sure you know all this Dodgezilla, and you were trying to get some better milage w/ that 6.7 w/ lots of air pressure. I've been guilty of this a time or two.
It figures that MikeyB would call me out on that ONE TIME that I tested the off the line power....

I keep them aired up for the best mileage but maybe I need to reduce the pressure some. They are wearing perfectly straight across so I don't think they are overinflated though. Usually they would wear in the middle but not the outsides.
