Any of you guys ever tried the marine grade speakers? I cant see any reason they would be any better. Must be a marketing ploy. That probably means that the stickers on the back wont come off if you take them under water.

Oh ya on the RC51, I hate that bike. I never rode one but Im sure its fun. Instead I knocked one over with the front tire of my truck and it cost me $1150 to repair. Stinkin plastic is high. Even worse than that I bought some replacement parts off Ebay for $500 and then they showed up cracked and I got screwed again ended up having to order new ones and that was another $650. I just sold them on Ebay for about $200 total (didnt want to screw anybody else on these parts). Ill stick to the truck and now I will walk all the around it before I pull out.

I did the same thing only a little on the cheaper side. I replaced the factory head unit with a quality Jensen that has a motorized fasceplate. The fronts and rears were replaced with MTX coaxials, with SPL highs in the dash. I don't run an amp. But the stereo pushes these just fine for me and the difference. from stock is unbelievable. My total cost is under $450. I also have a Delphi Skyfi2 installed. I don't mind spending money on this stuff, cause I listen to the stereo in the truck more than I watch tv, and with all the traveling I do I don't want inferior equipment in my ride.

Yes, the Polk Audio speakers I used are marine rated. That's not why I bought them, but I'm glad to have it because we're definitely a water family. Whitewater kayaking, lake powerboating, swimming, a dog that loves to be wet all the time... our vehicles see a LOT of water and the placement of the door speakers exposes them to more water than dash-mounts or rear-window mounts (in traditional cars) would ever see.

I guess what I was saying is that I didnt understand the difference becouse I think most of the up scale speakers these days are all made of a smooth plastic cone and a rubber surround (or some chemical inbetween). Since the connections are virtually the same on either speaker are virtually the same (I assume), them wouldnt the magnet be the only part left to weatherize?

And yes the polks are a great speaker I have them in my house and the car audio is even better. I like their component systems alot.

"thread Hi-JACK" and then some......

Data hasn't been there man, just admitt you made a mistake, still can't read I remember I am only an engineer. I don't go by spec sheets they are usually created by.....well I won't go there.

Rokkittboy.....I will get you some pics and again you are right the RC51 is the way to go if you truly love the twisties.....

Tristan21.......I grew up around you...Republic, MO...actually we play you all in football..Isn't it the Marshfield Bluejays? I bet that will learn you about knocking an RC51 over. They are very high to replace parts on especially plastic, everything else isn't to bad. If you wanted plastics you should have went to RC51.com there are alot of guys on there tradin stuff.....

Tristan21 even though the the DB series polks are Marine Certified I would only buy the MM/MC series for Marine use. The DB's just don't look like they would stand up to the punishment of water for to long.

Can you post a pic of the install kit for the deck? I would like to see what you or the kit did with the 2 **** cutouts in the dash.

WACTD, nice setup, that is funny because i just ordered the same polk speakers for my 06 but ordered a kenwood deck, KDC-MP332, should be much better. I agree i have had alot of stock sound systems in most of my other trucks and never bothered me, but these speakers are absolute junk, they will go right in the garbage can .

Hey forgot to mention i only have $323 into mine delivered to my door, for anyone else out their who is tired of the crappy stock setup it can be done for a lot cheaper than orginally posted. I bought the Kenwood KDC-MP332 from Crutchfield.com for $160 shipped with free wiring harness and dash kit, then bought the Polk audio db650 (back door) and db690 (front door) for $163 off ebay, pretty sweet to get a whole new sound system for my truck for that kind of price. Plus i have sirius sat. radio, but i already had the antenna and tuner to hook to the in dash cd player .

Great price on that upgrade!

I also used Crutchfield, but for everything - good return policy in case something didn't work. I don't trust eBay for technical items because too much can go wrong and return policies can be, ahem, "difficult". The Polk speakers from Crutchfield were $250, so the insurance cost me ~$90.

I'm not even sure why I am replying but whatever. See Mr Engineer (oh, I too am an engineer, btw) I am the one who posted the quote of the original post. Not WACTD. He had posted the list of components the first time. I know because I saw the post and went and looked up the speakers.
The fact that you didn't even notice that it was a different person who pointed out that the information was already there makes me wonder about your reading skills and your attention to detail. remind me who you work for, 'cause I'm pretty sure I don't want to buy anything you have designed.

So, when I see you ranting and demanding that WACTD admit his error, I can't help but think: "talk about the pot calling the kettle black, eh?"

cheers.

I replaced my speakers and head unit, but the biggest improvement, Dynamat! I Dynamatted all four doors using Dynamat's 10435 Xtreme Door Kits and wow. Not only does the music sound better, but also road noise was cut in half.

I tried out the polks and infinity components and wasn't impressed. I ended up at my local dealer and he had this memphis m-class audio line he kept telling me about, I 'd never heard of them and thought they would blow but man was I WRONG! The sounded awesome and were cheaper! Had those put in the doors 6*9 and 5 1/4" in the rear. Then added a 10" sub under the rear passenger seat. The sound is unbelievable. I kept the stock head unit, may replace later...

rc51 is the best for the twisties, come on guys, those are a fat pig by comparison, I know its a cult but unless you've dumped $3k in the suspension on that rc, your 1000RR is 3x better out of the box, and yes I've owned both
