Replace Airdog or don't bother??

My original AD150 worked flawlessly since July 2013 until mid-February 2014. It started blowing fuses randomly over a few weeks and then piled up without blowing the fuse at -35*C while down in Medicine Hat. Thankfully there was only a couple days left on a client's and the CP3 was able to pull fuel through. I replaced it with a spare Airdog2 I had in my garage (don't ask why I had a spare ).

The new pump worked flawlessly from then until this past Tuesday. Noticed 0 psi when I pulled into a client's yard in Kindersley parked. Of course the fuse was blown, replaced it and fired the truck back up. Fuel pressure for 20 seconds and then nothing. Checked the fuse and fine - pump piled up again in less than four months. Sent Tech Support an email and no reply yet.

So, I have returned back home today and running around on my CP3 for the past three days.

I have to hook up my factory fuel pump tomorrow.

Do I bother retaining all the fuel lines for the Airdog, or revert back to OEM for good and start capping all extra ports? I cannot be dropping fuel pumps in more remote locations.

I'm in the same location as you pretty much, experiencing the same temperatures. I have had my AirDog system for about six years - not one problem with it. I'm wondering if maybe it is something simple like an electrical connection to the pump…bad wire shorting out.

I wish it was that easy. Last round I went through the wire from the battery all the way to the pump and found nothing. Since I pulled it all anyway, I rebuilt the entire wiring harness with 12awg, siliconed the wires entiring the body of the spare pump and sealed the connectors when the spare was installed. All wires are loomed and tie wrapped for securemeny and protection. Every potential electrical and water issue potential was eliminatèd from ever bèing a variable.

As much as debris may always be an issue, I cannot see it as fuel from my aux tank is filtered and I change the WS and filters every 2nd oil change (16000km).

We had SO many failures of the Airdog fuel pumps after the new owners took over a couple years ago, I determined it wasn't worth the trouble selling them any more.

The originals were fairly tough units but the newer ones have seal failures allowing the fuel into the brushes/internals, causing them to short out, shutting them down.

Two questions:

1. If a person's AirDog stops working, does the vehicle still run?

2. When would a person choose the higher flowrate pump over the lower?

I can only answer the first question with certainty. Yes. I had to run it both times with only the CP3 drawing fuel by itself for a couple days out at clients sites - you can shut down overnight and it will start up again at cold winter temps, but I did over treat with antigel to thin out the fuel. I also made it home on the highway 5 hours the first time and 2.5 hours the second. The calibrated seat of the pants measurement was noticeable in loss of throttle response and the engine ran different as well...noticeably.

The second question: the AD150 was plenty for my application even when I cranked my Smarty or was pulling 18000 lbs in my GN race trailer through the mountains - pressure never dropped below 10 psi. I believe the 100 gph would be plenty as well. I'd consider the other if it was easier to install with existing rigging. I'd like to see installation pics or diagram of plumbing.

I ran a Air Dog 150 for 5 yrs, no problems.
I wanted a larger pump, so I went to a Fuel Lab 200.
This pump plugs into the air dog harness, easy install.

I ran an air dog unit for about 6 years. Then the unit started losing pressure. Normal PSI at idle 16 PSI, it went down to 13 PSI, on acceleration it dropped to below 10 PSI. In installed new filters...no improvement. Took pump apart and found the problem. The pump end plate was not square with the pump shaft and impeller. Photo below. Air Dog took no responsibility. I replaced with FASS platinum 165 that was not problem free. Single bolt mount is a joke.

Fass Titanium arrived today from Lary and the DTR store Thanks Lary!

Got OEM fuel supply hooked back up last in the interim until I can get new installed. We will see what happens.
