Thought I'd bring this back up. I think I'll FINALY have time to do it this coming weekend. I was wondering though if the tire needs to be dismounted from the rim to get the chrome clading off the bead area....or if I'd be able to yank it out.

I didnt do it. I dont have the ability to remove my tires (and no longer have another truck to take them to get removed and put back on) if it was needed, and I didnt want to start taking it off and find out the tires needed to be removed.

Are there 2 different sets of chrome clad wheels?
My truck came with the alloy wheels, but my buddy just gave me another set of wheels off his larimee which is the chrome clad and look to be alloy underneath with the chrome clad overlay. My old truck was an 05 and had the chrome clad but I think they were steel underneath, and I really didn't like the look of them.

The clad can be taken off with the tires mounted. I used a torch to heat up the cladding which makes it alot easier to remove. Heat it up until you see the chrome bubble and make a popping sound. Do the whole thing and then carefully pry up an area with something flat then grap a hold and pull and it'll come right off. I did four in less then 20 mins. The epoxy is the hardest part. A stiff plastic spatula worked best for me.

Dan K, there's two types and the easiest way to tell is on the steelies the holes are curved and the alloys are more rectangular.

Wow! So I tried your idea last night about the torch.....it workes real nice!

I only got two wheels done before it got to dark. I'm going to remove the other two today, clean them up and paint them. I'll take pics and do a small write up when I'm done.

Thanks for the help sloride!
