Hey guys,
I loved the way the truck ran before! I can't wait to drive it after this rebuild. I sure hope that between the new cam, the new little bit larger turbo and the ARP's this thing hold together.

I've only seen that Cummins "Tan" in the 12v's I see in the generator units on the flightline.
On the zinc, yes it is very advisable to use the high zinc oil, or other break in additive with high zinc. It doesn't have to be that one brand you mentioned, but you do need to do it. It is mostly for the cam break in. I think it wise to keep using it as the newer CJ4 oil is low in zinc and the zddp is what keeps your cam and flat tappets in good shape.

Hey guys,
Soulezoo,
Thanks for the advice about Peak. Great guy!
Well I should be getting the engine in the truck tomorrow.
gpshemi,
The engine would still be running fine if I used my head instead of my right foot... I found out running a Smarty on 9 and a mp8 50% and flux 2 injectors and 60lbs of boost isn't good for the head gasket... Who would have thunk it?
Anyways I had alot of people tell me how bad it was to do what I was doing but after 60,000 miles of abuse it finally let go. Oh well live and learn I guess.

The compression will be very close to where it was because the .040 pistons are designed for the larger bore and to keep the dynamics of the motor very close. Therefore allowing the stock head to remain useable.

Hey guys,
Well we got the engine primed and got it in the truck today. Tomorrow we should have it plumbed and fired up.
Jethro,
I don't have all the #s commited to memory but I know the pistons were a little less then $156 for the pistons, rings and wrist pins. They were 40 overs right from cummins. They gave me a real good deal. I will try to find the receipt so I can give you the rest of the prices.

Oh and by the way the machine work was free... I have a guy that is a friend that ownes a great little engine shop near my concrete block plant. He needs some retaining wall blocks so he will get paid with free blocks. Probably will cost me double.

I'm glad to see that you went with the "Cummins Beige" paint. I can't understand why they ever went to the black paint for their engines. I used to be that most Cummins were that color except for IH using red and Pet' sometimes going with white. The problem with the black is that when you have to work on it, you are looking into a dark hole at a dark engine, just makes it harder to see what you are doing. I could understand Detroit using black to hide all the oil leaks.

Pevaguy,
Ya know I didn't have a choice.
When my mechanic rebuilds Cummin's engines and he does alot of them he always uses ceramic Cummins Beige paint. So for fun I left him a can of rustoleium black and said when the block comes back give it a good coat of this would ya. Well when I went in the shop and saw the block partcially painted he said I couldn't find that can you brought me so I went ahead and gave it a coat of the right paint. I found the black paint in my office on my bookcase...I have to tell ya I love the Cummins beige paint! It is the right paint.

Jethro,
Bearings were 55.38 for the con.rod set and main bearing set was 38.56.
The most expensive thing from Cummins was the head. It was $1,220.31 for a new head (not a reman)!
