Hey guys,
Well we started to assemble the new engine and my buddy the machinest stopped by and asked what break in oil we were going to run. Well I wasn't going to use anything different then we always use regular old 15 40 diesel oil. Then change at 500 miles 1 more change at 1000 then 3000. Twice more at 3000 then switch over to delvac 1 full synthetic for the next 2 or 300,000 miles( I hope). He was tellin me about a high zinc oil that is called Joe Gibbs Driven.
In my truck shop my guys have built hundreds of diesel engines for many pcs of construction equipment and haven't used anything but 15X40 dino oil. What"s this Hi Zinc stuff this guy is talkin about?

Funny you asked that question b/c I just learned about it the other day when I talked to Brian from Hamilton cams. It's a lubrication that has been takin out of the motor oil b/c of emision BS and it's bad for 07.5+ diesel engines. They actually sell zinc additive for any motor oil that will help in friction on metal components.

Hey guys,
Here's a few more. New pistons (40 over) new cam and lifters- (Hamilton big stick) new head (stock from Cummins) new 110 lb valve springs & push rods (Hamilton). Arp head studs (625's) fluid dampener. Also a new II silver 64 turbo.
Of course all new bearings and gaskets top and bottom.
I have around $7,500 into everything. I think if you check that is a real bargin... The only thing I wasn't happy about was I had to pay a little over $350 for the 40 over head gasket.
Can't wait to get it back into my daully!

Looks like its coming right along, I'm sure you will be happy with the decision to go with .40 over as it will make a great daily driver and still very streetable!
