Raced a Duramax
I'll give ya this statement...but when was the last time Toyota made a 3/4 or 1 ton light duty diesel truck that lasted a long time? I think they are going to have their work cut out for them with these new emissions and what Dodge, Chevy and Ford have been building for many MANY years already. They may END UP good, but I think they are going to be quirky for a WHILE...Derek
I owned an 04 tundra: Didnt like it....but that's not really the truck's fault as i didnt get 4x4 and it wasnt full size.
I owned (wife) an 03 Sequoia: Tranny grenaded at 36k, Continous Rear window issues, other very minor issues
I currently own (wifes) an 06 Sequoia.....no issues
Bottom line is i've spent a ton with toyota, think they make a good product when they put their mind to it, but they're not perfect, their truck will have issues as well, they're expensive but the resale's great.....it'll still come down to preferences....and what year you're buying and what phase of the "leap frog" game they're in (brand loyality is ignorant if you're sticking to a 10 yr old design). I love my current dodge (as i did my previous 2 dodges)....and if they're competitive when it's time for a new one, they'll get my $$$'s, if not, it's who makes what I want at the time of purchase!
I think that as of now all 3 have a very well rounded truck on the market and it comes down to preference and nothing more. If you don't like something, that's your problem and just because you don't doesn't mean that everyone else should follow suit. This debate will go on and on and on forever, no matter what Dodge does someone won't like it. No matter what GM does, or Ford does, or any auto manufacturer does there will be someone who doesn't like it. No matter what anyone states as far as their opinion it is an opinion, and we all have one and that's a fact you can't debate.
they might be good but i for one want a truck that looks like a truck.
That's possible, but not entirely probable. I think that Toyota has been watching the big 3 very closely for a long time and learned a lot. I belive that with Toyota's strong reputation they've established with their cars and trucks that they won't stumble and if they do, it'll be more like a stubbed toe....
Along with that DMax there is also about 1000 other cars, truck, etc that would smoke a Cummins. Who cares? In Texas, we dont race our ******* trucks, we make them work. I haul horses, building supplies, and a bass boat all over this great state. Anytime you see a 5th wheel, multiple horse trailer, or any other heavy load, 95% of the time (no exaggeration) it is a Dodge with a Cummins. Most of these guys are over 40 years old and have driven every truck in the world and for some reason they came to the conclusion that Cummins gets the job done better then any other brand. I want stability and power. I like the Dmaxs and my fiance wants one once we get married. I will be more then happy to buy one for her. As for my next truck, only a Cummins...
Im here to party
In fact it is a box stock Duramax ECM equipped with nothing more exotic than programming changes.
Where Dodge CTD's lose out is in the electronics department. And lose out BADLY I might add.
Dodges have 2 computers, that share the same bus but work through a translator to run. GM uses 3 computers, TCM (Trans) ECM (Engine) and BCM (Body)
But the difference is they all 'talk' to one another using the same CAN BUS protocols. So making 'custom' and infinitely variable programming is a walk in the park, which is why EFI Live was and is so succesful now in the GM Camp.
I made 550+ RWHP completely stock on programming alone (although it cost me a stock turbo to do that) with my old DMX.
Now I own a HPCR CTD, and sold my TT DMX. The DODGE electronics suck! TST requires 3 power connectors, crank, cam, injector connectors, MAP connectors etc. Why is this? Because the BUS interface between Cummins electronics and Chrysler electronics is hamstrung by their communications protocols.
My Comp Juice on my Duramax. 2 CONNECTORS ONLY and 479 RWHP!
There is the reason for all those who wonder why and how they can do what they do.
