Questions about my South Bend
Questions about my South Bend
Finally had the Dual Disc 3250 installed and wondered what are the symptoms of not removing the spacer behind the clutch fork. (1)The throwout bearing is always noisy except when the clutch is pushed in, (2) doesn't start pulling until the pedal is almost all the way out, (the installer said no adjustment on it but why is the linkage threaded behind the clutch pedal then)
and (3) has a vibration that wasn't there before. Is there somewhere to download the installation instructions to check it out myself? I usually do my own work but I filed an insurance claim for bed and tailgate damage and used the check to do the clutch and swap out the A/C components to the 2004-04.5 style but the bank wouldn't let me do it myself. They are the lien holder and the check was made to me and them so I had to use a shop to do the work. I guess they that I would cash the check and use it on hookers and blow

The dual disk will always rattle due to the center section hanging free of everything else. It sounds like a throwout bearing problem but its normal. The throw will feel like It engages way too late, however your clutch fingers sit out away from the flywheel about 4-5 inches, therefor you fill up more space in the bell housing and move the point at which the pressure plate releases the disks back towards the slave cylinder.
Not sure about the 3rd gen application, but I was directed by Peter from South Bend to remove the spacer from behind the fork to ensure complete engagement of the clutch. It's best to get with SB imo.
Just my luck, it broke off 2 off the pins and started coming apart. I knew it sounded bad from the get go. South Bend replaced everything but has not paid the installer for the R&R. He told them to come remove the rest of his stock as this is the second one they failed to reimburse him for.The worst thing is it started coming apart and a piece knocked a better than golf ball sized hole in the transmission housing that they are refusing to replace. Hell if a defective product destroys another component they should fix it, right? I guess since the South bend site is down showing mal-ware on it and can't connect anyway, I'll let other potential customers to be aware,. I'll try their site later, Peter seems like a good guy. I have pictures but am too stupid to post.It only had about 4 months and 10k miles on it. Only a Bully Dog for mods. It no longer sounds like it misses on 2 cylinders either. It's late, more on Friday. I can e-mail the pics if someone can post them I expect to get banned from a few sites where South Bend advertises though.

Some things in your story just simply do not add up here, so lets look at this from a logical point of view shall we?
First off you stated that Peter at SouthBend replaced everything right up front, no hassles at all....sounds like they did this on just your word since you have been unable to post photos here, meaning most likely you never got around to sending them any photos either..... is that correct?
Now I know for a fact that they had an issue with pins on a few of these that they have corrected the fault in their manufacturing processing. I also know that they are dealing with each and every issue as they come up by replacing product and any damaged parts like bell housings if you follow the simple steps they ask of you......Like Send them some photos so they can assess the damage and the cause.
Sounds reasonable enough to me after all they are a business and they need to be able show what caused the failure and justify the expenditure involved in giving you such great Customer Service.
Secondly I also know that they do indeed pay the installer for repair work, granted it is seldom at what their normal shop rate is, but that is also standard in the industry.
I also see where you say you only have a Bully Dog for mods but your earlier posts here show that you are running the Crazy Larry program which we all know can really crank out some HP and torque. Hardly just some little old box as you try to make it sound here.
You also state that Peter is a great guy but then you turn right around and try to trash him in the Forums before you even send him the photo's that he asked for. It looks to me like you are just jumping the gun a bit and you should call Peter and work WITH him instead of against him in this matter.
People that do this usually find that a Vendor has little motive to want to help you once you trash them all over the Internet.... I can't speak for Southbend but I know if you did it to me I would assume you chose your own road and would let you follow it on your own, washing my hands of the entire situation.
I see you also expect to be banned from some sites where SouthBend advertises as well? Looks to me like you are also bashing DTR here and we have not done a thing to you...
This also leads me to believe that you are prematurely bashing Southbend as well.
If you really want your clutch problem fixed, try calling Peter and give him what he requested from you already so they can do their part in solving the issue. You might even want to man up and apologize for prematurely bashing him here and I assume on other forums as well.
There is a right way and a wrong way to get help in a situation like this one, you just picked the wrong way but it may not be too late to choose the right way and still come out unscathed......but that is up to you and you alone.
