Talking Billet Scoop Grill

Mike, you need a billet grill for the hood to match the grill on your truck. The one I put on mine would work well I think. I also cut a thin piece of black powdercoated metal and put behind it to block it off, and with it in there you can't see the tabs that the grill fastens to, which can easily be seen through the OEM plastic grill.

Yeah, I noticed yours. I was out looking at mine this afternoon trying to figure out what I could do with it. I'd really like to figure a way to direct the cold air towards my BHAF....

Check out TDR Magazine issue 52, pg.95. Joe Donnelly made up a deal to put on his truck. I dont remember if it directed air just downward over the engine or to the intake. There is a small article with a pic or two as I recall. Thats about all I dug up when I was researching the Hood idea.

Luck to Ya, Johnboy

Thanks. I don't get the TDR Mag. I'll figure something out though...

How do you get that little grill off the hood without destroying the little round clips that hold it on?

If you are talking about the OEM plastic grill I never put mine on. I think it had those thin push on fasteners, sort of star shaped opening in them and when pushed on the star shape thingys sort of bend backwards a little and dig in and won't bend back the other way to allow it to be pulled back off. You will have to grab em with needlenose twist em and flip em over to pull off or break them. The plastic studs will be delicate you know. If you are needing to get it off, and break it you can have mine if I can find it. I might have left it at my buddies where we painted the hood. Hollar if needed, I might even have the push on dealies that came with it, a well stocked hardware store should have them

I know a couple of guys who managed to 'screw' those off, they used a pair of vice grips and pulled back on them, prying a little from the front side, until they came off. Then, they threaded the plastic rod so they could use nuts on it to hold the grille in place. They made a back plate to use during winter and the rainy season, slid it on behind the grille/nuts holding it, and used a 2nd set of nuts to hold the plate in place. Easy to put on, easy to take off, simple cure to that problem.

I may try that. I deal with that type of fastener on occasion at work but they are much larger than these and I don't have to worry about messing anything up when I take a hammer and screwdriver to them to remove them. Since I just got the hood painted I really don't want to scratch anything up even if it is on the underhood side.

Donnelly's plenum was a tube box about 2"s tall and 6-8 ins wide by 16-20 ins long. It sits directly behind the intake duct and sends the air over toward the right side. It does not go directly over the air intake, just blows air at it, in that direction.

I'd be satisfied with something like that. I really have no means to fabricate something though so I am stuck trying to stumble across something that I could use to make it. We'll see.....

Here you go rip 112. I finally got around to doing the grill. I like it better than the chrome but I guess I'll see how long it lasts. The hardest part is in getting it to have the same shine as a body shop paint job. I used over two cans of clearcoat on this thing and it's still not exactly as shiny as the fenders. I wet sanded w/ 1500 grit, hit it with polishing compound, and then waxed it several times. It's definitely very close so I am very happy to finally have this done...

Craigslist...

I forgot to say, like everybody else I didn't really like the black grill in the hood scoop. All I did was buy a roll of that stick on body molding and cut three pieces to fit. It looks great and that stuff sticks really good so I'm not worried about it coming off. Now I just need to do something with the lower grill opening....

The guard should match the color of the outside of the grill IMO. Your grill guard on your painted grill looks good, green on the chrome grill didn't.

I always wonder what a guy is thinking when he puts a chrome guard on his sport grill..?

Those hoods sure lok sharp, what did you pay for it?

I didn't think the green bugshield looked that bad on the chrome grill when I had the stock hood on the truck. With the SRT10 hood it makes a big difference and I didn't like it as much. I definitely like it with the green grill better....

I got the hood used and even after having it painted it cost me less than a new primered one from the Dodge dealer.
