Quadzilla standard question

I just got it last week...17k on motor.

I leave it on 60, but if I punch it to get around traffic, I get a sound almost like knocking on a gasser if you have too hot of a plug?

If I keep medium hard throttle it's fine, but soon as I tip the scale towards 75-80% throttle it starts up?

A tin like rattle is how I would describe it, very loud though.

P.S. 21mpg at 65-70mph kept RPM's below 2k going to Santa Cruz and back about 150 miles with one 1800ft pass in the mountains. Hand calculator.

Normal, injector noise from running higher pressure.

It could also just be from the extra timing. It's known as timing rattle. The Quad instructions mention that you may hear this and that it is OK.

I've got the standard "tow" box and it does the same thing.

That does not sound right to me. A little bit of timing rattle is one thing. I'm running the quad race with a rokk tech timing advance and don't experience anything like you describe. Get a hold of Quad.

We discovered a couple years back that the tone rings on these trucks are not exactly meticulously installed at the factory. There is some play there and some trucks come with it advanced all the way and some come with it retarded a little bit. It's not a lot of play but it's enough that you may be able to loosen the crank bolts and spin it a tiny bit to advance it and you may even feel a difference. That adjustment is one reason that two identical trucks may have much different results when adding timing. My 03 got a huge gain from doing the tone ring mod while this 07 hardly got any gain from a Rokktech that is fully advanced....

Hey Dodgezilla.

What you just said about the crank sensor installation at the factory would also be an excellent explination as to why some of our trucks get great fuel mileage and others are so-so at a couple mpg less. This is probably an excellent flag about fuel economy issues. Maybe people should start with the crank sensor adjustment, or installation of the Rokktech, when seeking a mpg gain? Timing IS everything when it comes to performance.

I would say it is more the difference in an experienced person listening to a modded diesel versus someone that just made their first mod.

The same sounds are present on a stock truck but, as we all know they are amplified some by adding modules. The difference is when it was stick they did not roll the windows up, turn the radio and A/C off and listen at every RPM and TPS.

That is usually the difference, I doubt there is anything wrong!

CD in NM. You are correct. My 03, where I could actually feel a difference in how the truck ran, also got about a 1 mpg gain when I did the TRM. The 07, where I felt no difference at all, got 0 mpg gains from the Rokktech....
