Quadzilla and Power Pup...help!
Quadzilla and Power Pup...help!
Hey all just got my new truck...purchased it from MXBOY from this forum..it is an 03 3500 shortbed 4x4 it has 4" exhaust, AFE stage 2 intake, full gauges, full DTT tranny minus billet flex plate and output shaft. Truck came with a bullydog Power Pup (version 1.4) and an unknown quadzilla module. The module is black and shaped kind of funny and has no writing on it... I was told it was a quadzilla. It has a three position toggle switch in the cab for the quadzilla. Does anyone know what chip this actually is (Xzillaraider? or some other model?) and is it timing and pressure or just pressure.
Also I have been playing with changing the settings and I must say i am impressed with the quadzilla...i can notice major differences with it as I change its settings, but I don't notice much difference with the Power Pup. It definitely has more power but I was expecting a huge difference considering the extreme setting is supposed to be 130 hp.
I am wondering if perhaps it isn't functioning correctly because I have read of people claiming the power pup spews smoke on the extreme setting...when i am in extreme setting and have the quadzilla at the lowest setting I do not get hardly any smoke...with both on to the max I get a decent puff but definitely not billows of smoke. Also a lot of people claim that the power pup alone will break their tires loose on extreme but with both of my boxes it doesnt feel close at all to breaking loose. Granted the tires are 295 70's but i would think this stacked combo should be able to get them moving??
The other thing i am seeing is that my egts really don't get very high...i had expected that with both boxes on high i should be seeing 1400 easily preturbo, but so far i have not even seen it get to 1200. Also noticed that I am only getting about 15 to 20 lbs of boost max. Another little issue is i am getting code P0602. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Is my set-up performing as it should? Any help at all would be great, thanks in advance

Your boost is WAY low. Mine stock makes 20+, with it on the 130 setting, I see34-35 spike, and 30-32 constant. SOunds like you are not getting fuel, LP maybe? Check fuel pressure would be where I start.....my .02
something isn't working right....take the chips off and install one at a time and figure out whats going on.
P0602 Control Module Programming Error/NotProgrammed
judging by the code something definitely isn't working. Sounds like the "Quadzilla" is working but not the Bullydog. Ship the power pup in to be upgraded with the newest software or do it online if you can....then re-install it....and report back

well I had to give a friend a ride over to the performance shop here in town (J and H Diesel) so while i was there I had them check it out... they checked my fuel pressure...while it did get sucked down they said it was doing fine for a stock lift pump. They said that either my power pup wasnt up to par or it wasnt stacking well with the quadzilla. He said he had never seen a quadzilla like this one...thought it must be one of the first ones. We set the BDDL back to stock and drove it just with the quadzilla, he said it felt good, but he agreed that when you downloaded the extreme program it wasnt as good as it should be...he has just the BDDL in his truck and he said that it alone was stronger than my stack. So tonight i am gonna unhook the quad and try just the BDDL on extreme and see what happens.
also I talked to bully dog they said that since I had a power pup that had a USB port on back I could download an update off the internet. I have version 1.40 and there is now a 1.6.something available. Should I do this download? I have heard that the newer versions are weaker is that true? Also are torque management delete and low-end power options with the new update?? I forgot to ask bully dog. Thanks guys

well I put my truck back to stock so I could update the power pup to the new version....go through their registration process install all of their software and drivers and then find out that there is no update for the 03 to 04.5 available on their site...only for 06. The lady at bullydog actually argued with me this afternoon when I called in and asked about sending my module in to get downloaded...she said that based on my model number it could be downloaded from their website... I told her that I had heard to update for my year i had to send it in and she said no that since I had a USB jack i need to download from the internet.
On another note I was hoping Quad would chime in and tell me more about the quadzilla box i have. Might have to start a new thread for that.

I just caught this one.
It sounds like one of the very old modules that we made for the 03-04 trucks only. It has a toggle switch and is in a black aluminum case with green ends.
They are really old, like 2 or more years old to the best of my memory. It should still work fine and it should stack ok with the BDDL. It is pressure only with boost fooling turned on in the 50hp setting and the 100hp setting but not when it is set to stock. Those were the days that stock was 100% stock!
Now I really do not like talking about other products but, some of those older downloaders were not the greatest thing. Apparently the newer ones are better but, I have no idea what they changed or why? I would try it by itself and if it still acts up I would call and get a different person and send it back to them.

Hey quad...actually it isn't black aluminum with green ends...it is about 4 inches by 4 inches and is kind of irregular shaped and is solid black...it kinda looks like it has been Rhino lined on linexed! It plugs into the MAP sensor and the fuel sensor...
That may be a rebadged EZ box sold by PPE. My neighbor has one on his 98 that looks like it's been Line-xd. Are there two hex head screws on the end opposite the end with the wires. Is that what you have? It also may be a diablo power puck if it's shaped oddly....
actually i am pretty sure it is a quadzilla...came with a instruction sheet from quadzilla, says quadzilla cummins power module, I will try to take a picture of the module tonight...
On a completely different note I will never ever purchase or recommend a Bully Dog product. I called Bully Dog this morning and informed them that as I had suspected my box could not be updated over the internet. I asked them if I could send it in to them to be updated and they said no because I was not the actual purchaser. This really pisses me off. I purchased about 1200 dollars worht of stuff from them about 2 years ago for my old truck (a rebadged VA box, stage two injectors and an intake setup) but since I didn't actually purchase this non working Power Pup they won't upgrade. The technician actually recommended that I return the truck to stock "and sell it to someone who doesn't know any better on Ebay". WOW!!
Well I am gonna investigate my low boost problem because i think that might be the root to my issues. I played with the truck alot today and I never went over 15 pounds of boost with wide open throttle, this seems VERY low to me. My 2000 used to consistently hit 30 once i put a boost elbow on it. What could be causing low boost?
