Quadzilla Commander

I installed mine last week, and it helped to diagnose that my truck had a possible fuel problem, which it is in for service for right now.

However last friday after I got off of work the screen on the commander was very dark, almost black, so dark that the numbers were unreadable. My only guess was the heat, but I live in Colorado and it has only been about 85 or so here. Did it again on monday. With the AC on, the unit takes about 10-15 minutes before it is readable again, but it is still darker overall. I tryed adjusting the backlight, but doesn't help.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this?? If so what did you do to fix it?

I had the exact same thing happening on mine... except is was mostly just the left side of the screen. I assumed it was "overheated" from the sun. It felt like an oven in my truck when I got in it after work. The screen never really did come back on "normal" that day, but when I left for work in the AM, it was fine and has been since!?

Mine went completely out about a month after I got it. I called Quads and Jeremy had me send it back. I now have a new one and it works great. If heat had anything to do with it mine would stay dark at 100* everyday here for about a week.

Thats kind of what I figured, there are plenty of places hotter than here.

I've seen that kind of thing happen on laptops, pda's, and cell phone screens too. I don't think 100 degrees will do it, but remember, it probably gets much hotter than that inside your truck if your windows are rolled up.

But each time i've seen it happen, the screen goes back to normal once it cools down, with no lasting effects that I could tell.

Mine had something wrong from the get go. Mine never made any noise when you push the buttons, the new one makes a beeping noise. Mine truck is in a parking garage all day here at work so it is not in the heat or the sun. My first monitor just slowly started fading away over about a 1 week period. The truck does sit in the direct sunlight at the house.

Hunter11,

We sent you a beta unit because you were trying to go on a trip. The beta units just had a normal temperature rated screen and no buzzer. That is the only difference.

I have not seen any of the new production monitors have any screen issues but, it could happen?

yellowz28,

If you think it is broke then call us and get an RMA# and we will fix it or replace it. Also if you are going to be doing that send us your module if you think it is broke as well?

It was over 100°F here 4 days last week and my Commander screen didn't give me any issues. I had to park on the roof of the parking deck at work too, so no shade in site!

BTW Quad, you've got a PM...

Where do you have it mounted just out of curiosity?

Quad, sorry I had no idea it was a Beta unit I had at first. It had the USB port so I thought it was a production unit. I did just talk to Roark who said he would send me a USB cable for my unit because I never got one.

I have mine mounted on the A pillar.

I used the supplied 3M tape and stuck mine down pretty much right next to the A Pillar.

I have seen the same thing with my unit. I have found that if I place a little say "tent" made out of poster paper over the unit so the sun does not bake on it from the back. The readout is great and is not affected. Made me look the first time it happen.

Mine is sitting up on the dash, right next to the A-pillar. I'm debating whether to leave it there or to mount it somewhere else. I need to see Quad's new pillar mount first!

Installed mine yesterday and it was fine, got in the truck today and the screen was so dark you could not read it (80 degrees). It took about an hour before it came back to normal, will call Quadzilla in the AM to see what the problem is. Other than that it works great.
