Quad Commander Install Progess.......

I bought a Quadzilla Commander and Pillar Pod from Rollin Smoke Diesel for $360 shipped (good price if you ask me).

Tonight I started the installation. The pillar pod and monitor installed easily and looks really good. The monitor is in very easy reach, has good access for the driver, and is angled really nicely to be within a slight glance to the left.

The Pyro Probe was drilled in the backside of the manifold towards the firewall, to reach the 4-6 cylinder temp. I barely managed this with a Dewalt cordless drill. A right-angle drill would have made this a lot easier, and would have given me a good excuse to buy another tool. Oh well, it went alot better than I thought........

I marked the location with a Sharpie and marked the spot with a drill punch.
With the motor off, I started with a 1/8" bit and used 6 more, before finally ended with a 21/64" bit. I lighted coated each bit with grease and after each drill bit size, I used a pencil magnet and a shop vac, to clean the area. I also started the truck on every hole size step-up. Over kill yes, but I wanted to make sure I did this right.

The tapped into the MAP sensor and the CTS sensor and then moved onto the trans temp sending unit installation............and stopped quickly. Quad failed to include the trans temp sending unit with my kit, so I will have to wait until it arrives to finish.

Here are some pics, so far:

That WAS a good price. I paid a bit more for mine w/out the pillar mount. Haven't installed it yet (w/ moving and all). Once I get the shop set up, I've got projects for the Jeep and Dodge waiting on the shelf. Thanks for the pics.

Ok, well I have everything installed, minus the trans temp which should be here Monday.

The EGT and Water Temp works great.

Today it is about 85 degrees outside and at idle the EGT reads 280-320 at idle. Going upto to 65 MPH, I was able to get the EGTs to 750.

The coolant is reading a constant 220-225.

PROBLEM: I cannot get the BOOST to read out. I 'believe' I have tapped into and found the correct sensor...........but I am not 110% sure.

The istructions read:
"Locate the engines MAP sensor. This is on the driver’s side of the engine next to the valve cover. It has 4 wires coming from it."

Is this in the rear (toward the firewall) of the intake manifold, that is a 4 wire flat connector that is pointed down into the motor?

If so, any ideas why the BOOST will not read out?

D45, are you using the wire taps? If so be sure you have a good connection. Mine did the same thing.

BINGO!!!!

I removed the wire tap from the D wire on the MAP Sensor wiring harness and found that the wire's insulation was not pierced through.

I used an razor blade and removed a tiny bit of insulation and reinstalled the wire tap.

The boost display now works!

What numbers should I expect to see from the boost display? The max I saw was likst 24-26 and at cruising speed it was very low.

Your numbers for the boost seem right to me. I have the edge and under heavy acceleration I get between 20 - 28 and at cruise almost nothing. Install lokks good. I am curious to see what your trans. temps are. I haven't towed yet but they haven't gotten above 150. even going up pretty good hills. Does this sound right to anyone else?

Yes, it is a nice product........I should have bought it alot sooner!

Did you get the new or the old version FP kit?

I thought Quad told me the new FP kit will not be available till the end of the month.........I did not buy the FP because I want to wait till the new kit comes out.

Also, how does the FP kit wire into the main harness from the monitor?

Yes, the EGT reads immediately upon starting the truck.

I just installed my Commander yesterday and could not get a boost reading and my coolant was a constant 225 (too High). After retapping the wires and checking voltages I still could not get correct readings. After a 10 minute (cold one) break I went back out and found the problem...When the spade connector was put into the female tap it went to the side instead of in the hole (any guys ever had that problem?). You can't tell it's not inserted properly. Pull the connecter apart and reinsert making sure the spade actually goes in properly. The point is your coolant temp seems high, check that connector. Hope this helps.

I was thinking mine was a tad high......I will recheck the connector today.

What is your water temp reading now?
