Pyro position...

Hey guys, just wondering about your opinions of where the best spot in the manifold is to drill for the pyro? My gauge set from Diesel Manor says to mount it in the rear side just above where the turbo mounts, or on top of the manifold just to the front of center. Are either of these better, or more accurate? Would seem nice if I could measure all the exhaust, not just half the cyls...

Thans for the help.

Either of those two places is good. There is no advantage to measuring "all" the cylinders with one gauge because it would be an average and not that great for diagnostics. So measuring three gives a good indication of the temps and the fueling level. Best might be if we could measure each cylinder separately and see the consistancy of the injectors, but that's a bit much.

I put mine on top of the manifold as you mentioned. It is very responsive and has helped a lot with towing. Also, that place is better for keeping chips out of the turbo unless you do it the right way and remove or block the turbo.

I've always heard that you put it on the back side to because the 6th cylinder burns the hottest.

I use my pyro more for temp into the turbo, rather than overall cylinder temps, (I have minimal mods) my temps dont get that high.

For my application I figured that the best place would be in the collector, right before the turbo.

In the collecter just before the turbo on the back side where cyls. 5 & 6 feed. Those are typically the hottest and that is really what you want to know is where is the hottest place. This is just a collective average as mentioned above, but unless you wish to install one for each cyl. that's the best you can do. It does you no good to say put it on cyl. 1 and thinking you're ok with 1350* and nailing it when cyl 6 is 1500 and melting. Go for the hottest place possible.

Thanks for the replies, sorry about not getting back sooner. Just got the gauges in today, and am wondering about the boost. What is the stock max boost for these trucks? I can get it to spike to 30, then it backs down to about 27 or 28 max. I thought I read before somewhere that these trucks should get in the mid 30s. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

your stock boost levels are just where they should be until you add a programmer or boost fooler then you can see up to 42psi and sustained mid 30's

Thanks for the replies guys. I wont worry about the boost then as it seems that I am in the norm. It sure is nice to see more guys in our area that have the same interest in this site. Good dyno by the way on the 20th at BD, I was there watching. Nice truck that you have there. I was going to dyno mine, but since it is stock, I didnt see the need as it should be the same as the other stock trucks. Got to wait for the warranty to die before the big power starts...

Thanks again, nice to chat.
