Programmer/least Smoke

My brother bought a new 06 and put 6" lift and 37's. After seeing mine run he has decided he wants a programmer but doesn't like a lot of smoke. He knows you will get a little but does not want it to fog out 3 city blocks. My superchip runs great and he likes it even though they're not good at keeping their word it is good cheap power. I told him about the smarty and diablo so can anyone help with info comparing these 3. I read a lot of good things about the smarty but seems like it will smoke alot. I guess my question is can you set the smarty to run good with out blacking out everything around you or will the diablo or superchip be better. By the way he is one of those guys that pretty much babies his truck so no racing or hard driving even though I tell him as soon as he gets a taste of it he'll want more.

the smarty can block out 3 blocks. it is not too bad with a stock turbo, since it spools really quickly

Depending on how you drive with the Diablo is how much smoke you lay...Drive conservative and he'll be fine

Smarty & '07

My Smarty is set on sw#3 and I can control smoke quite easily. My '99 was a different story. I really had to roll into the throttle to control that one. With my manual tranny it seems easier to control smoke because I decide when to shift. With my DTT on the '99 it was the boss. It would tend to upshift a little prematurely unless I manually shifted it. Overall I'm real pleased with Marco's invention. I hope I never have to test Marco's claim of non-detectability. Dread taking it into the dealership. Van Aaken makes a simple box that gives 60+hp without pressure but they don't claim its invisible. Reliable products from that company though.

can anyone compare the smarty on say #3 vs superchip on perf. for smoke, performance, fuel mileage, egt's ect....Looking hard at the smarty--just don't know if it's worth the extra 350 bucks.

put the two products side by side and the cost difference is obvious. Compare all the feature's and it's the price difference is easy to justify

Edge Juice has a low boost fuel adjustment on it. You can set the setting on 1 for lowest smoke or level 5 for most responsive (smoke)

My diablo on performance even with a bigger turbo does not make much smoke. On extreme it is still easy to control the smoke with my right foot and the diablo is pretty easy on the checkbook and has some new stuff like tire size adjustment and power adjustment on the fly which is coming out or is out for the 06's.

On level 3 you can easily control the smoke...esp with a conservative driving style...you have to want to smoke someone.....i love the smarty, it's worth $700 hands down...

I own all of the programmers mentioned, and if minimal smoke is the primary concern then I would avoid the SmartyCR. It's by far the worst smoker of the bunch, regardless of the level you run it on, which probably attribites to the fact that I get my worst MPG with the SmartyCR installed.

As for comparing the SmartyCR #3 tune to the FlashPaq on Performance here's my .02 cents, keep in mind that the FlashPaq Performance tune is somewhere between the SmartyCR #5 and #7 tunes as far as HP is concerend:

Minimal Smoke - FlashPaq
Performance - FlashPaq
Fuel Mileage - FlashPaq
EGT's - SmartyCR

I'm currently using the Predator Extreme RKL tune on my truck as it gives me the best balance of HP/Smoke Control/MPG.

Good Luck!

tell him to get the smarty. yes it will smoke more than the flashpaq, but its not to bad once you learn how to control it. the smarty on 3 is like the SC on tow. i had mine on perf, then switched to the smarty and the power is greater on 5 and 7 in my opinion.

i had the flashpaq and now the smarty and they are night and day difference. the smarty is alot more user friendly and faster when downloading.

Are the EGT's lower on the smarty? Does the smoke mainly come from more fuel on bottom to where if I eased into it instead of mashing on it the smoke would be minimal? I can live with that, I just don't like my truck to smoke a lot.

The EGT's are a little bit lower when compared to the FlashPaq...

The SmartyCR seems to smoke more due to it's aggressive bottom end and touchy throttle, but does clear up once you get into the boost, although I have seen complaints about the SmartyCR covering trailers in soot. You can minimize the smoke by being very gentle on the throttle and keeping the RPM's and boost up. Also, my experience is with a manual transmission and I'm sure it's quite a bit easier to manage the smoke with an auto.

it smokes more with the more aggressive trq managments. stock trq mang isnt to bad. the lower egts come from more timing. the throttle isnt touchy unless you have the wild program IMO. i have mine in mod trq man #5 and when my boat is wet, the smoke really sticks to it, but nothing a little simple green and some soap doesnt take care of. its really not to bad. its all in how you drive it too.

Ive got the smarty running on #2 and it only smokes a little when I get on it with no boost in lockup. Once the turbo spools, the smoke goes away. Its my daily driver and I work on base, so I have to control the smoke. However with the smarty vs. the others, I would prefer 9 levels of performance with the options of loading up hotter programs. However like I told my wife, "I bought it just to recalibrate for the new tires!"
