"programmed tune" compared to a box
I believe that an ECM programmer gives better performance than a plug in box.
What are you referring to? Having someone change your tune every time you want something different?

Being able to custom tune your truck to your mods seems like a good deal, if you know, or if the person writing the tune knows what their doing.
Box/canned tunes work fairly well, some of the more sophisticated ones like Smarty work excellent, for being a basically "one size fits all" programmer.
I guess all the currently available tunes are being labeled as "box tunes", since EFI will/can actually be a unique program for any truck, but they also will have "canned tunes/programs" as a starting point.
