That's what I was thinking, basically I think HT needs to design a different "trim" for this turbo. Keep this one as the "Sledpuller" and design a different trim as the "Street" 66. This one would be great for actual sled pulling from what I can tell. Just enough lag to keep from frying the tires while getting the sled moving but once you reach 2k, she lights and you're off to the end of the track...

Strange, mine never surges under any circumstances. It barks if I'm in it hard and let off quick. Maybe it's something to do with the 3rd gens. I know when they were having surge issues with the killer b2 it was on mostly all 3rd gens.

Mine barks while towing heavy no matter how you let off it. If you let off easy, it barks up to 6 times lightly, if you let off harder it'll do it once or twice a little harder. The surging didn't bother me as I quickly learned to drive through it, the EGT control was VERY impressive.

Seems like some big singles like WOT or babying them. I have had the problem in the past where rolling onto the throttle nicely will do that. You can learn to drive around it. Sometimes a downshift is rewuired to get the RPM's over 2000 to get the turbo spinning before applying the go pedal.
Don't have any problem like that with my B1-2-04! No barking or surging!

Bob,
Are you the lucky new owner of the turbo AK Ram was selling?

Pier's has definitely done more homework before releasing their turbos than HT has. However, when I contacted them I was told that no single turbo would be enough for my truck and I cannot afford twins at this time. They insisted that I go with a twin turbo setup, while HT suggested the larger 66 as an alternative to twins, and it was cheaper than the B1. It was my only choice because Pier's warned me that the B1 would not be enough for my truck. Honestly, I do need twins and if money was not a problem, the truck would have them. But for now the 66 does a better job keeping her cool than the B-1 could... If Pier's offered a bigger single than the B1, I would have bought it.
