Question exhaust brake owners please read!

I just installed my jake brake on my 06 ram. Do any of you run with it on all the time or only while towing? if I leave it on all of the time will it hurt anything?
Thanks, John

I have run with mine on since it was new. It's like running your truck in tow/haul mode. I actually do shut mine off while sitting at intersections when the truck is not up to temp yet as the hiss is quite loud through the unrestricted 51" Nelson muffler, but other than that, I use it all the time.

Like Smokeman said, the truck runs in tow haul mode with an automatic transmission. Consequently, when running empty the fuel mileage won't be quite as good in suburban areas where you are mainly driving between 40-49 mph because the transmission will stay in third gear. Also, you should probably turn it off if the roads are slick. I leave mine on a lot except under these conditions.

Never turned it off w/ 13k on mine!

I think it helps mileage....I think it turn off injectors, when engaging the brake. It also seems to lock up the TC earlier in 3rd. So it helps keep the trans temp down too!

Same here, although I have a PacBrake. PacBrake recommends to leave it on as it keeps it from sticking due to exhaust soot.

just did my trip with , it really works good with the cruise on too, the only time i'm not using it is when i'm wanting to coast (without gas/brake) i like how it disengages when i'm slowing to stop at a light.

You must have a separate lockup controller.

I use the Jake Brake only when towing, and love it. It works the same, whether in two mode or not. And with the '06 automatic, neither the Jake Brake or the Tow mode keeps it in 3rd gear. It always goes into 4th gear after about 55 MPH. My old ''96 Dodge automatic would stay in 3rd as long as you had it in tow mode, but not the new one.
