Probe port for pyro

I'm installing gauges in a new to me 03' this weekend. Any particular spot on the exhaust manifold that I should drill / tap for the best results? How about an easy port for the boost. On my 00' I only had to pull a plug out to install a fitting for the boost. Any advice would be appreaciated.

Thanks

When I drilled/taped for the boost gauge I did it on the back side of the inlet. I guess you can drill the front but it just looked clean from the rear of it.

Let me know how the install for the EGT goes, I runied my manifold today trying to do mine. lol. Follow this link there is a picture where a fellow member taped/drilled his.

They reccomend you drill the hole on the farthest flange on the manifold. You will see where the manifold drops off and connects to the turbo, drill a hole in the port closest to the firewall. The picture in the link above pretty much sums it up.

Take a look in my photo gallery for pics of my EGT - POST turbo install - of course mine is a 4.5.... I was able to just take the wheel well liner out and it was a piece of cake. Not sure if this'll help you with an 03 though...

As far as the boost gauge is concerned, I used a boost bolt I got from Dieselmanor. The install of the boost bolt was the easiest part of the gauge installation.

Hey. I checked out your picture for the pyro fitting.& I put mine in allmost the exact same place.I was wondering what your EGT's were at full load.Mine run at 1100 degrees. Our trucks are also nearly identical.

Sorry - I just revisited this thread. I'm one of those wimpy guys that doesn't really tow too much with my truck; not that I don't want to, but I'm married; there are a lot more toys that I want in the stores than in my garage or my yard :-)

So, my normal cruising EGT is usually 450 - 500, and 600 going up a hill or something. Now I have actually managed to get the EGT up to about 750 once, but that was at about 80 mph on a pretty good grade coming out of Santa Fe, NM.

I shut it down when the needle drops below 300.

truckjunkie Was the elbow thick enough to tap for egt probe ?, or did you need to weld on a bun? Just ordered my gauges & think I will go post turbo.

Where I tapped it in the elbow it was plenty thick. I think I got 4-5 threads in there with the tap - maybe more. Just make sure you put some anti-sieze on the threads before you screw it in.

If you get an exhaust brake, I know Dodge puts the EGT on the elbow there.
If its good enough for dodge, I will put mine there too.
