Thumbs up Predator Stage 2

Took the dive and got the Predator stage 2. It took 2 minutes to hook up, just like claimed. Truck ran smooth, just like claimed. I only got 1 run in, down and back up the Grape Vine, about a 5 mile grade at 5-6%. I hit 1300° at WOT and 85 mph or so, but had to back off because of traffic. On level ground it jumped from 60-85 like a rocket.

They claim 85 hp out of it, but I couldn't tell by SOP for sure since I'm new at this. I can say that it has really brought this SO to life

This weekend I'll have to pull the trailer out and see how it pulls.

Get EGT please...would love to see what numbers you are hitting with a 110hp increase...easily over 1400 my bet.

I was wondering if the chip lowered the egt like it says in thier ads. I'm thinking about the 85hp chip for my truck

I'm going to run a couple tests, up the grapevine with and without it this weekend, pulling my trailer. I'll let you know. I got this thing to tow with, not to hot rod, but the hot rod part is pretty good too! I'm sure upgrading my exhaust and intake are in my future.

I have the auto trans and it does still lag a bit off the line, but right about 1600 rpm it just rockets.

tcb, I got mine here, at Jegs They got it out the same day and no issues.

I ran a test today, hooked up my travel trailer, about 8,200 lbs. dry weight. Took two runs up the grape vine, one with the box and one without, about a 5 mile 6% grade. I reset the trip computer for each run:

Without Predator:
Air Temp: 83°
Max Speed: 50 mph (45 most of the time)
Max EGT: 1150°
Mileage: 5.9 mpg

With Predator:
Air Temp: 81°
Max Speed: 60 mph (had room for more too!)
Max EGT: 1250° (touched 1300° for a second, then it backed off)
Mileage: 6.9 mpg

Awesome results. I'm most certain that if I slowed down to 45-50 my EGT's would have been around the stock numbers. I am not trusting that mpg figure until I can run a full tank and compare to calculated, but if it's close, than I am way happy.

There is a downside to this test... When I hooked the box back up, I got the connector from the box to the harness BACKWARDS! I started it up, and she was VERY upset . IMO that connector was too easy to get wrong and now I have a slew of codes. I flipped the plug and it seems to be running fine now. I hope these codes will clear with some time unpowered or a few restarts. Funny thing, the codes talk about cam sensor, turbo boost pressure and water in fuel. I also got a fuel rail and voltage faullt, both I would expect from my blunder. I haven't checked in a while, who knows how long some of them have been there.

will the edge box cause warranty issues? In other words, can the dealer tell there's been the edge there?

Rementa, there was a huge difference in how much the local retailers wanted compared to Jegs like $150! I don't work for them or anything, I just tried a few before going that route.

I was really thinking hard about the VA 3.1 or the EZ, but both of those boxes increase the rail pressure and EGT's, although much more mild than some, I still did not like the idea of goofing up my trip computer and putting the added strain on the rail.

Predator claims they don't do either. I am really happy with the results so far.

As far as the dealer being able to tell if the EZ has ever been installed? There's a ton of discussion about that out there, but my hunch is that the ECU will tell what the peak rail pressure was and since EZ is about 27,000 (max I think) and stock is about 24,000, they could see that if they looked. I Don't know, but don't want to run that risk. EZ is a good box too, there's a lot of guys here that are real happy with it.

d12,
Those are exceptional numbers! Is there any chance you could post the dyno sheet. Assuming your peak hp was at 2900 rpm, that would mean you had a perfectly flat torque curve from the torque peak (2100 rpm ?) up to 2900 rpm. All the boxes I have seen show a roll off of torque as you go to the high end.

If they don't raise the pressure how do the do it? Timing and duration only with no EGT raise? Ya right...

What they CLAIM is that the stage 1 and 2 does not raise pressure above 24,000, isn't that about stock? The guy I talked to said they change how and when the injector is opened and said they change the "Plume" of the injectors. What the heck is plume? He did say that they do duration on the stage 3 and 4 boxes.

I don't have any way to tell for sure, except when I fuel up on the next tank. If the trip computer is close to right than they can't be changing pressure too much, right?

All I know is this little SO has been brought to life and so far I'm a happy camper!

rmb93243, how is your Predator 2 performing for you? Are you still happy with it? Anything new to pass along? I'm interested in one for my truck, which is pretty much the same as yours and I tow a 8000 lb. trailer also. Any info would be appreciated. Brian
