Pre-heat problems/remote start
I recently had an Astro two way remote start installed. Works great, it allows time before cranking to preheat the engine. However, since it was installed, the truck starts as if the preheat isn't working. At 18 degrees outside, it clattered and smoked (huge cloud of white smoke) and had trouble getting going. I don't remember the smoke last winter. It was almost like the old Ford 6.9 I used to drive. Anyone hear of remote start installations screwing up the start sequence? It is a 2004.5 600.

Does it do the same with the key, or just the remote start? There are several wires your truck used to start and run, four wires plus the starter wire need to be connected if you've got a newer truck. Not all of these come on at the same time but to save time and effort some installers connect them together, however I haven't heard of it causing a problem like yours.
