Power steps or nerf bars?
I installed the AMP power steps and took me a afternoon to do it.Right out of the package it looks like alot of work...but wasnt that bad at all.Just follow the instructions. The local shop was going to charge me $150.00 total labor for both sides which i felt was pretty cheap, but i couldn't wait so i decided to do it over the weekend.Very sturdy and smooth.Best thing about them is when they are lowered they sit much lower than any other steps or running boards out there which makes getting in 'n out much easier.
My cost $1050.00+ tax,3 beers, and approx 4 hrs of my time.

Where did you find them for $1050?
Thanks guys. She is not very far along. We are hopeing we can hide it till Christmas to suprise the family but dont know if that will be posible. She is a VERY tiny little lady and the doctor said she will pop out fast. I still have a month or two to get them on. I most likely will go with a nerf bar or simaler just because of price and not wanting to deal with them getting frozen and burning out in the winter. My truck getts pretywell packed with snow underneath durring the winter. I have seen some nerf bars that look like they where flattened so that they are wider than they are tall. I am currently looking for some pics of those to see if I like them or not. I would realy like the power steps and obviously so would she but if they freeze up and burn out they wont do her any good and it will have been a lot of money down they drain.
Congrats Tye and double congrats 3rdGen.

Get the Amp Research power boards. Once you purchase them and put them on you won't care how much they cost. Once your wife uses them for the first time, she won't either! Besides having a wider flatter surface than a nerf-bar, there is no specific place you have to step. Also, as someone else mentioned, they drop lower and split the ground to door sill height much better than nerf bars or running boards. Also, I don't think anybody has mentioned that when extended they stick out further too. They are just much more practical for entry/exit of the truck. Not to mention the "cool" factor!
As far as snow/ice go.........
They have a "safety" feature built in........if any resistance is encountered, they stop........they don't just try to force their way. If you want the step to stay out with the door closed, say to stand on it for washing truck or something, all you have to do is hold your foot on the step when you close the door......it senses the resistance, motor stops and step stays extended. It automatically picks up where it left off with next cycle of door.
Also, speaking of snow/ice, since they are tucked up under the truck pretty tight they wouldn't be covered with snow/ice if out in the weather, creating a hazard, like nerf bars and running boards do. Whether or not road slush can get thrown up on them in the position they retract to, I don't know............maybe someone from a climate a little colder than south Georgia could chime in on that...............
If you can afford them, give the Amp Research power steps another look! As far as where to buy...........we bought ours from 4wheelparts. Price was average, but they are/were? having a thing where you get a gift card for money spent, basically bringing the price down another $100 or so, and they will also pricematch.

I am running a set of nerf bars and like them alot, I personally, while I like the idea of the power units, dont trust them around cold and ice. I live in Northern Alberta and we get as low as -40 degree weather. Now I realize that they will stop if they feel resistance, but in my kind of weather I think that I wouldnt want to go without my steps for a month or more.... if you get where I am going with this
