I've never owned the Carr steps but I have used 'em on someone else's truck and they are as functional as any other step/nerf bar out there. Hard to beat the price of the Carr's.

If you wind up getting the Carr steps take some pics of 'em so I can see them installed.

Buckshot,

I like those black N-fabs you have posted in the pic in your post. Those, imo, look very sharp.

Another idea, I will submit for your thoughts. Ranch Hand Side Steps.....http://www.ranchhand.com/steps.htm

And this is a pic of my truck with them installed. I think they would look great against your red truck too. Good luck.

What did you do with your N-Fabs? PM me if you still have them and are interested in selling them.

I avoided that problem when I installed mine. The first thing I did was to go get some SS bolt, nuts and washers. I used the lock nuts with nylon inserts and also added nylon washers. In 4 months of a lot of use including having a 300lbs friend of mine jumping in and out, they're as tight as they were when I installed them.

I do know what you mean though. I had that problem with a different set on another truck. I learned my lesson that time. I think even though you have frame mounts this time... eventually if they come loose, you'll get a squeak.

Ok! I'm going with the N-Fabs. Now, What color? I think Red to match the rest of the truck or even the painted chrome.

The bars are powder coated. IIRC, they only come in silver or black. I guess you could always have them done in a different color at your own local shop. Dipping them to be chrome would likely cost quite a bit.

Powder coating them if not done by N-Fab will likely run around $100 to $200.

I just had my ladder bars done along with a couple other things and it ran me $225

According to N-Fab site they will paint/powder coat them for you when you order them.

You might want to verify what color they do. When i bought mine about 3 months ago, they only sold them in silver and black.

I preferred the silver because for one, they stick out more than black would and it give a contrast to my truck other than all chrome. These trucks have plenty of chrome as it is.

It's all in YOUR taste.

Tritont...
Yup I changed out all my hardware after the original stuff went bad....
It was about a year that I had mine before they really squeaked...

I really liked the third step.... but it was the noise that drove me away......

I have some on order right now and I will be placing/making a Lexan/Rubber busings to go in between the mounts and Truck! This should work on teh squeak!! The squeak is only when you step in and out of the truck right????? As long as they do not squeak while going down the road I'm fine!!!!
