It can be from an injector missing the pilot shot event entirely. Then it will sound like a 2nd gen, but quieter. And if it is only 1 cylinder, it might sound different. This can also be caused by a CP3 with a scored plunger.

I don't have any mode's to my truck but the sound you are talking about happens to my truck with very light throttle with no load(aprox.1800 RPM). I pretty sure I have a bed injector but the dealers says they need a special tool which is on a national back order. I will let you know when I deffinently find out. But it appears from some of the polls I've read 15% of the people who own 2003 and up have replaced 1 or more injectors.

Injector

Turned the ring back to stock and it's still quiet, however louder with the box up.

what you stated Superduty sounds really close. It's not a pinging, or detonation, it really sounds like a rattle, and only when on light throttle in that rpm range. With the box off it's very faint, however when I turn the box to 60 it does make the noise a bit louder. it is rattly. I'll have to take it in one day and see if they can check the injectors. I'm really worried about losing one at the wrong time

Superduty ?

If you have a scored pluger how do you check it to make sure ? Can I get the CP3 pump rebuilt somewhere ?

TAS05CTD610: the noise you are hearing is also experienced by most people who have a quad box.
Quad says it is due to the timing. You may notice that the higher you go in the power settings (0-60-100-130) the louder the noise gets.
The noise (exact same noise) is also present with the box OFF or completely removed (having the box off is not the same as completely removed, it still does *stuff*). I asked the Dodge tech about it and he mentioned that the 3rd gens all make that sound under light or no-load, in that same RPM range.

The sounds also bothers me, especially since the ~2000rpm range is right at my highway cruising speed.

I am not sure what to do either. Pressure boxes are bad for injectors, timing boxes maybe be back for the whole engine because of that knock? mabe stock is best, eh?

then again, the truck STOCK already makes that knocking sound, only quieter. so what gives?

Glad to see people are still reading these old threads

I've gotten rid of the quad box, loved it, made great power and was good bang for the buck, however it was pretty loud crusing and I just couldn't take it. Ok even if it was 100% safe for the truck the noise was just flat anoying. (can't talk with the wife while driving) Been stock for a while and it runs great. I did put a TST on however I run the timing setting only and it runs very good, think the timing + pressure is what was making the noise.

My truck does this also in the 1700-1900rpm range. It is more pronounced with the Juice turned up. But my truck did this before the Juice but not as pronounced. I have done the tone ring mod. I advanced it all the way to the bolt holes. I also sent my Juice w/Attitude back for reprogramming for the 6 speed and 3.73 rear end. Since then I've gotten some super mileage on my truck. Almost all of my tanks of fuel are 50/50 suburban empty and suburban towing my 5000lb trailer around. I get from 550-600 mile on a tank when the DTE on the overhead reads 0!! My worst tank of fuel in the last 3 months was 17.6mpg average. On my current tank of fuel the overhead is reading 17.7mpg (always 1-1.5mpg low) and I have 315miles on the tank and have just over half a tank left according to the gauge. Now here's the kicker!!! I find my best mileage occurs when I run the Juice w/Attitude on 4/1!!!! That coupled with the tone ring mod should have quite a bit of advance, but my truck runs great with great mileage and low EGT's. Also on this current tank of fuel, before 3 days of towing from job to job, my overhead was reading 19.9. And like I said, it always reads low about 1-1.5mpg; and I do hand calculate!! Just thought I'd throw my .02 cents here.

Well mine has the same sound your describing with the tst on 1/1 and boost is about 12-15 and rpms 1800-2100 with acceleration. When steady cruising no pinging at all.

I don't know if we are talking about the same noise. I witnessed one truck with a quad standard box on 100 hp setting with know knocking what so ever then they took the same box and put it on another truck and it had a severe knock enough that everbody there agreed that if it was there truck they wouldn't drive it like that. I do think it is a fueling issue. Maybe the fuel actuator or fuel sensor which is making the truck run a little lean and that's what causing the knock. I know its not the injectors because they were just replaced with F1's.Anybody elese have some ideas thats causing this annoying knock. Thanks
