My Fold A Cover is flaking, need to re-surface. Love the functionality of the cover, and it's mechanically durable - rather than spend 700-1K to replace, I tried to get a few paint shops to do the job; all tell me:
1 - Since the cover is painted textured aluminum, complete stripping is all but impossible
1 - Automotive paint won't last on the textured aluminum; no guarantee on job
2 - Spray-in bedliner material will add too much weight, and won't stick well - no guarantee on job
Would like to powdercoat, but the panels are rigid foam between aluminum panels.
Anybody have any experience with a durable, UV resistant coating that will work? Would like to color match (Bright Silver), but will take black at this point.

 

I wouldnt do black, no matter what paint is it, its going to fade, black ALWAYS does. ide get a can of spray on paint remover ( or a few ) spray it on there and hose off the paint. i have used "auto strip" with success on my custom bike to get the finish off of textured parts before i polish them. The paint comes right off with water after about 2 minutes.

I dont think the paint would last long on it either, i would be surprised if you WERE able to find someone to guarantee it.

 

Any type of adhesion promoter formulated specifically for aluminum? Would that help?
