Pacbrake Issue

Question Pacbrake Issue

I've had the pacbrake on my pickup for just over a year now and it started to only work intermittently and then stopped working altogether. It had a blown fuse on the power wire leading to the battery, so I replaced it and it and it worked for a day. Now it just melts that fuse every time I turn it on. I checked all the connections and grounds and everything looks good. Anyone have an idea as to what's going on? Thanks for the help.

I woinder if the air pump is going and mayby drawing to many amps or maybe one of the relays...
Give them a call tomorrow. They have great customer service.
They also answer emails pretty fast.

That reminds me, I probably need to change the air-filter on my PacBrake (not that I think a clogged filter could cause the problem you're experiencing).

ETA ~> What max PSI can the PacBrake PRXB generate? I recall reading "135 PSI pressure switch", but is it capable of pumping something up to that PSI w/external air? If so, I think I may have a bit of a leak as I just attempted to inflate my tires and could not get above 63-65PSI.

my pac brake compressor (viair) cuts off at 150 psi, which was a surprise the first time i saw that.

Depends.....the stock one will pump a tire but is not meant to run that long.
They offer a constant use version
more suited for that type of app.

Well I took the truck into the dealership to clear a turbo overboost code and replaced the fuse after the computer was cleared and it runs like a champ now so I guess problem solved... ( I hope)

Update

I have an update on this issue if anyone is interested. The flash didn't fix the problem. So I called the guys at Pacbrake and talked to Doug. Turns out the compressor is bad, Doug said this was not a common problem but he had seen it before and even though I was a little out of the warranty they would replace the compressor and throw in a bottle of lubricant for the butterfly valve at no charge I gotta say this is my favorite mod I've done to my pickup and the people at pacbrake are top notch I would recommend them to anyone.

I got the same excellent response from Pacbrake. Called them and told them the fuse kept blowing. They know some compressors are shorting out....even though mine was several months out of warranty, they sent a replacement the day I called. Popped it in and everything runs like brand new!

Great customer service!!

Pacbrake whistles

My EB whistles when it engages both at warmup and under use when warm. It does it about 75% of the time and I can't figure out where it comes from. Has anyone else had that happen. Please, it's driving me crazy.

Found the problem

I called technical service at Pacbrake and found out what causes the whistle. They said it's a common problem of a small leak developing in the exhaust manifold. So now I have to figure out when to fix it.

Followup

I took the truck to my dealer since I have an extended warranty. The problem was actually a warped exhaust manifold not just a bad gasket. So now I have a new manifold and no more whistles, unless some babe is whistling at me or the truck.

I would like to ask if anyone has been having any issues with the check valve? I have had to replace the check valve aprox. 5 times within the first year. Pac has always sentr one out no problem and the last time I called they said they had gotten a bad batch but the new ones are good. I am about to install it but just wondering if anyone else has been having the same problem?

I'm going to call and ask for the new check valve. I've replaced mine twice and it's bad again. They leak down internally when they go bad. I couldn't find a leak at any of the connections, so I called Pac and they sent out a new valve. It didn't last very long.

This might help and it might not. I pieced mine together and built my own tank and compressor controls. I pitched the Viair check valve on the end of their hose and used an in-tank check valve with an unloader port. Then I used a compressor pressure switch with the unloader so my compressor fully unloads every time the compressor stops. It's just like any other compressor I've worked on. I told a guy at Viair what I built and he thought that was way cool - I guess he hasn't been around too many big compressors. He said they have a problem with toasting compressors cuz they don't unload right or not at all. If that cheesy check valve leaks the compressor will always start loaded. Even if the check valve is good, the pressure in the hose won't bleed off unless the compressor valves or the hose leaks. Either way... only having a check valve and no positive means to unload the discharge pressure is not good. Craig
