Cool Ominous Black Cloud of Doom ( smarty )...

I’m put it on SW#1 just to see how the truck reacts (new to diesels and programmers). I’m looking at all the displays to see the data and then I give it a little throttle here and there to feel the responsiveness. Then something amazing happened. I wot’ed it from a stop light and happen to look in the passenger mirror. An ominous black cloud of doom was bellowing from my truck. It was a near spiritual experience.

Looking forward to SW#2

You have got some pretty good self control, I started with 7 and worked my way down untill the clutch would hold... I am now at 3

C'mon, now!

Just load up #9 and be done with it. Better yet, stack it with a MP-8! Smokes like an overfueled 12v.

Yeah, I wish I had a modded CP3, too. Most I could do w/o popping was Smarty 9 and TST '05TT program set to 2/1.

I'm not looking to trash the ole (new) tranny just yet. It's got to last me until build my cj8. THEN, I'll bomb the ever living crap out of it.

Me too. I was able to go 3/1 and Smarty 8 and EZ 2, but anything higher was a spittin, sputtering, popping smokey mess.

jonessm8 - I am thinking of getting a smarty for my 06 auto. Other than the smoke how is it? Can you give me a 10 second review?

Thanks

What Smarty data version are you guys using to get all the smoke? Not that I want more. I'm running the latest version, mild TQ management, 202B, setting SW3. Even at WOT I don't see heavy black smoke, it smokes, but not like a 12v. Just curious if other trucks are responding differently.

Thx, Sid

The original version that was on my Smarty was pretty radical with smoke and touchy throttle. The smoke was 12v on any level with my laggy big turbo, it did clean up ok, but it was impossible to drive in traffic without irritating a lot of people. The current version I have loaded 306d302b is not near as touchy or smokey, but with my turbo I can smoke out an intersection if I want. Just lay into it hard from idle and until the SPS66 lites it is a freight train.

Well, so far I've only run SW#1. You have a little better throttle response and it seems to pull better before the turbo kicks hard and continues to pull a little harder with the turbo. #1 isn't a dramatic change, it's subtle but definitely improves driveability. The smoke isn't bad (almost unnoticeable) unless you really stomp on it.

The tranny has handled #1 just fine with nothing out of the ordinary.

I think I'm going to use the rest of this tank as play and try SW#2 & 3. After that I'll start doing what I bought if for, testing the economy increase. If you're not looking to buy right this second, I'll post up some seat of the pants opinions on the mentioned settings.
