The AT2s come with a 65000 mile warranty (well just saw the warranty for the LT tires is 50k). That implies they wear well. Trying to decide between between the AT2s or the M55s. To get a 33" tire in the M55 have to go to 18" wheels. I can get there with the AT2s and still keep my stock wheels and already have the hub caps for the front wheels cut out for the SpynTecs plus they are already paid for (cheap skate I know).

I had M-55's on my 2nd gen. Although tough,they are pretty loud at 45-70 mph and that was on the loudest diesel ever made.
I really like these AT2's.
I had MT's for 19K but sold them for something quieter.
I did get a huge cut on the tread that flattened in seconds. At freeway speeds the instant deflation and camper weight destroyed the MT. I had to buy two more. $600 day. Great,tough tire but it does happen.

 

Weird to hear people getting such poor life out of MT's. I've had three sets, two sets of 33" and one of 35" and have got at least 60k out of all three. They are great tires, never have flatted, seriously never. Very durable, quiet for how meaty they are, and do surprisingly well in snow. I would never run BFG ATKO again, D rated is no good on a diesel truck. Wonder if tire pressure is the issue, I run low when unweighted and only fill to high pressure when loaded.

Interesting. My neighbor's 2000 F-350 4wd, unladen Superduty chewed his Falken 285-70-17 E rated's(aftermarket wheels) up in 23K. Discount gave him an allowance toward 305-70-17 Nitto Terras. All street driving. Tire longevity is always all over the map.

 

Thinking kind of seriously about the Rickson 19.5" steel wheels with the Toyo M608 in 285-70-19.5 size or 265-70-19.5 size. I would like a taller and narrower tire. This will need to happen with a re-gearing to 4.10s though. It would be nice to get 4 times the life out of a set of tires. The Dura Tracs I put on (285-70-17 are OK but they are kind of squirrely feeling during abrupt maneuvers though.

I'm guessing they were real cheap? D rated?

 

Actually the reason I bought was due to the amazing load range. Load Range E2. It is 3860 lbs per tire, which is the equivalent of two load range D dually tires. 325/65 r18. They measure 13.2" wide and 35" tall.

 

The short sidewall might lend itself to a higher load capacity.

 

6 years ago i put 285 Cooper Discoverer ATRs on my truck and I dont take care of them at all. Almost never rotate them and only check air presure once a year or before a long cross country trip. I finaly replaced them last month with 83,000 miles on them and honestly could have waited another 10K but I had the money and dident wana run them cross country this summer on vacation pulling the camper. I figured with that kinda life out of the old ones I had to put them on again. Now they are a little different tread pattern so I hope they last as long.

 

This ^.. I have been running Toyo MT's since 06. I keep then aired down until I am loaded. Love em, do good in the snow, quiet on the road and when you need em their worth every penny. That being said, they do wear out faster than AT's or grocery getter radials. BUT they are MT's, they are designed primarily for off road use. If you put these on a farm/ranch truck that doesn't see much pavement they would last forever (maybe not forever ). The first set of MT's I bought were the Coopers, 2 flats and hamburger with 10k on them after 2 weeks of driving on gravel roads on a hunt. That's when I switched to Toyo's and haven't bought anything since. I have had countless nails in my Toyo's, never a flat, just slowly losing air. My diesel shop owner has 37's of the Fuel MT's on his Ford 350, they actually have gotten pretty good mileage, but he says he is going back to Toyo's as he can't find a MT without extreme sidewall squirm other than the Toyo's.

To me it goes back to the saying if you are worried about mileage, don't buy a 1 ton pickup, buy a priius, hence if you want mileage out of tires don't buy an MT. I have been averaging 35-38k on each set before I start considering buying a new set. I never run them down close to slicks, I need the traction for my uses.

Yep this is a pretty old thread, but thought I give my opinion.

 

I had Toyo MT's for 19K. Although relatively quiet,still to much racket for me. I went to AT2's with 1/3 the noise.

I was heading down I-5 when some shrapnel killed my MT.
It does happen.

 

I hear ya, I didn't mean to come off as they are indestructible. Just that from my experiences they are the best MT you can buy for these heavy high torque trucks. Every product will have defects or certain circumstances that causes failure. I am certain that my day is coming, I have been very fortunate the performance I have received out of each set I have bought over the last 8 years.
