Is this normal EGT's??
Well, I have been towing my friends 22ft steel Hewes fishing boat (4000lbs) and I seen my EGT's slowly creeping up 1200 to 1350 at times during the climb up the mountain. Boost is low around 5-6psi, box set to level2, traveling about 55 to 60 mph. When the truck down shifts during the climb, boost is goes up 25 to 30 psi and the EGT's start to go down to around 950 to 1000. The boat with full load with all the camping/fishing gear maybe weights total 5000lbs, I am guessing.
1. Now I am wondering if this is normal.
2. At what EGT temp should I get concerned when towing with my current setup?
3. Why does the EGT's go down when downshifting during a climb with the RPM's @ around 2100?
4. I would not think my EGT's would get this high with this kind of weight am I wrong?
5. Should I consider aftermarket goodies to low my EGT's a little more?
Thanks

Sounds normal to me. Your egts drop at 2100 rpm because your turbo is pushing more air to burn the fuel. Low boost = higher egts. Most folks say 1300 sustained is alright. If i pull a really long hill 1250 is my max. The best way to lower egts is a free flowing exhaust, complete air intake and or larger turbo. Remeber that the higher in elevation you go, the less air there is and egts rise alot faster. Your friend here is more boost! Good luck!
those are normal EGT's. when you hit 1450 then you should be backing down. you can sustain 1450 degrees for extended periods of time. If you have to spike higher degrees going up hills, then dont be scared. Your EGT's are normal.
