new turbo install...interesting findings...

happy memorial day to all.

put the new turbo on this weekend and discovered some interesting results.
i sent back my htt 62/65/12 because of damage and high tech said my drive pressure was way to high and the turbo was junk. i was running old smarty 4.08 on 9 and dr p. at time of damage. old egts were silly hot with 1600 a norm when racing. (spraying water)
new turbo is a 66/71/14 and my original concern was spooling and drivability considering i do not have injectors and have stock cp3.
contrary to popular belief, this new turbo spools fantastic and drivability is great. 10-15lbs at 1700rpm and full spool soon after. new programing includes smarty revo and dr p. egts are 1300 wot(without water) and seat of pants is way stronger.
ran dyno on saturday and rolled 445/835. much lower than before but used a different dyno...land & sea dyno-mite 2000 . other rolls were on a mustang i think. interesting how much dynos vary. this one will be my normal tester and it includes a weather station for more relative numbers.
overall very happy with the turbo and current setup. i'm starting to understand the concept of drivepressure and what it means to our trucks...pros and cons.
going to track for sand drags on saturday and maybe sunday and it will be interesting to see off line spool up. changed programming to tnt level 5 to see difference vs revo and will note changes when i get more seat time and maybe a dyno run.
dealing with high tech was a pleasure and their customer service towards my scenerio was the best i've seen. many thanks for their help.
its amazing to finally have a turbo that lets this truck run its potential and keep temps down as well.

nice findings, i cant believe that you lost 135hp and almost 200ft.lbs between the two dynos, that's alot. i just recently got a turbo off of htt and agree that they are great to deal with

We put a Silver 66 on my buddy's truck and found the same thing. Sure when you just punch it from a dead stop theres some lag. But driveablility is nothing to what other people make it seem. I wouldnt hesitate running a 66 on the street. Towing heavy I could see being an issue though. But spool it off the line and your ready to go. Im glad others out there agree with me, a 66 is street friendly!

Dang that's a big turbo, I'm looking forward to dealing with them when I order my turbo. Sounds like you have a sweet rig, might I ask why you didn't try a 64?

i thought about the 64 and htt talked me out of it. with the amount of fueling and backpressure they gueseed i was running, the prostreet was the only turbo they would send me. i was leaning towards a sled puller with the 65 turbine wheel and they said its too small once they saw the old turbo and how badly it was smoked...oooppssss. also, towing is not a concern so i wanted maximum air for cooling purposes. just loaded tnt 5 on and it really lights up nice. just be careful with burnouts because 100 mph comes VERY fast...
have fun..

also, in terms of the dyno "loss"...i'm really not stuck on the numbers as long as i have a consistent dyno to calculate progression...which i now do. i may have a big difference in the "numbers" but when i hit 12's this weekend, i'll still be grinning ear to ear. my real numbers are on the track. my dyno numbers before were with 1600 egts. now they're 1200 without water....huge difference. i cannot afford another engine replacement...the first one hurt enough.
