Interesting findings with air filters

I have been trying to get some better mileage out of this thing and the first thing I tried was to swap air filters trying to find a better flowing one. First I tried a stock 5.9 replacement filter and it did nothing for mileage at all and it also pulled the filter minder down further than the huge stock 6.7 filter did. I just switched to an oiled AFE drop in replacement filter and I don't know if it has affected my mileage yet but the filter minder is now sucked down to about 3/4 of the way down!! You would think that it would be flowing better than the stock paper filters but apparently that is not the case. I guess the next step is an AFE Super Stock dry cone type replacement filter. In the mean time I will be putting the stock 6.7 filter back in.....

Interesting. I didn't notice any change in fuel economy for the 5000 miles I ran the 5.9L Mopar air filter so, when taking the truck in for a CEL, I put the stock 6.7L filter back in. I have an AMSoil nanofiber air filter for a 5.9L sitting in my closet that is waiting until I hit 20K miles to go in. I wonder if there will be a difference between a stock 5.9L air filter and the aftermarket drop-in with regards to fuel efficiency.

I'll send you my lightly used BHAF with red Outerwear. Maybe had 2500 miles on it.........Free experimenting is better anytime than costly experimenting.

Dodgezilla, I have been through exactly what you have. I spent A LOT of money on this experment. So, after going through countless filters, I finally found one that is perfect for (ME). The S&B. Try it.

I'm too cheap to buy an intake unless I find a used one.

RatlRatl, you have the address. Tell me how much you want to ship it

Awwww come on meow....

You gotta cut out the cheap jokes on my ads. It'll leave tomorrow on the big brown express.....Don't worry about $$. It'll either work like you want it to or it won't. On the bright side, if it doesn't, then it's gonna sit in your shop instead of mine

Dodgezilla,

As for the filter minder being pulled down, I can pull mine down at 3/4 to WOT even with a new Cummins air filter installed. I've read post from many people who can even pull down there filter minder with a BHAF installed. From what I've read the filter minder is not always useful nor accurate so don't judge your air filter because of the filter minder.

Yeah, I know it's not totally accurate but if it pulls down more with one filter than with another it would lead me to believe that something is not flowing quite as well. Mine just keeps pulling down further with each "better" filter that I try..........
I won't worry about it anymore because the BHAF will not use the minder.....
