Marco/Bob,
I thought once you unplug Smarty then turned the key off, you needed to wait 15 secs before turning on again?

NOPE! Please follow ALL the instructions on the display!!! Key off-Key on-Key off -Unplug ( I hope my memory serves me right!)
If the above Key cycle is not followed correctly then Smarty enters the recovery mode!

Sorry the evolution of the software is ( way ) faster than waht is possible with the printed manuals! Please, follow the instructions on the display. I'll stay tuned!

TCR,
Looks like I need to learn how to read the signatures. Your's a 2003!
I thought your's an 06! Different animal! Sorry for the confusion!

I think I know what happened. The best thing to do at this point, please give Bob Wagner a call. He will guide you through a process we call " forced recovery" another of the many un-documented services Smarty provides... Easy fix for your problem!
Once you're done, please update your Smarty with one of the latest releases from our web site. With those, the problem you've encountered will not come back again.

Let me know if I can help further!

Update. MAN what a mess! I've confused JohninNH with TCR....
Time to go home and have a rest.....

Marco...I'm good. (mine is a 2006) The key on key off sequence was not in the printed documentation.... I believe I'm all set...

I will download the latest s/w into the Smarty tonight off the web. (well it's on my computer now but you understand)

One thing which I found counter intuitive was "unplug and turn key off" I thought it would make more sense to turn key off THEN unplug. (after years of computer stuff I never unplug anything until the devise is turned off.)

So this is weird. Any problem with turning the key off THEN unplugging the Smarty.

Also .. can you connect the smarty THEN turn the key on.. Or do you have to have the key ON first all the time.

I feel weird connecting connections to a "hot" plug.

Thanks!

John who now has #5 loaded. (2006 4x4 6 speed)

John,
sorry for the confusion! Sometimes it's difficult to understand exactly what's going on. Just read.....

There's NO new update for the 06 Smarty; yet. So there's no need for you to download/update anything. Within a couple of days I hope to come out finally with the new software versions that Chrysler has released but at this moment there's nothing new for you to be had.

For pluging in the Smarty. No matter in which position the key is. The OBDII plug is always hot. It's clear that our hardware was build with that in mind.
We ask to turn the key to the run position before Smarty is plugged in only for convenience and to keep the time from plugging in to finish at a minimum.

Marco just posted on tdr that they are working on a new code in the new software. He hopes the updates will be published tomorrow afternoon-evening.
