Need help searching for the right cam

My borother and i have done some work to his truck weve installed an AD150, sbc, 40hp injectors, htt 62/71/13, and he also has an Edge/att but the truck seems to choke out and blow alot of black smoke. Will a cam help with smoke and cooling the truck down some? Can somebody point me in the right direction or educate me on its purpose. He currently has the stock headstuds. he runs mostly level 3 and run egt's up to 1300+. On my truck when i run stock ive gotten it up to 1300+ without an edge

edge creates a lot of smoke and high egts your set up shouldnt produce a ton of smoke and i would have to say that it is from the edge try a smarty and go from there.

Where going to take it in to the shop here in town so they can run a smarty tune on it, see if it makes a diffrence in smoke and power, he wants to get rid of the smoke mostly. Reducing egt's would be a great plus.

Does the turbo have the ss housing? If so check w/g pucks to make sure there sealing properly, sounds like mine was, they were not sealing right out of the box. I still think its funny how everyone's solution to a problem is a smarty
LOL!!

yeah its the stainless housing i will look at that. Yeah, believe it or not the smarty created a little more smoke and power but it caused the truck to stumble this afternoon. Egts are fairly the same with -30- -40

What do you mean by choking out? Is it nosing over in the upper rpms? Does the black smoke clear up after the turbo spools up? I get no smoke at all with 100hp injectors and a stock turbo tst on 4/2.

X2 on checking the wastegate, and also make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks. Some manifold bolts/studs will bottom out before the turbo gets tight.

I am NOT trying to sell a smarty here, or jump on the band wagon...

When my truck had a stock turbo and injectors, the edge was great for it. A little warm, but not too bad.

Once I put the injectors in turbo in, that thing would almost melt a piston every time I gave it a little fuel.

I don't think that the edge is built for extra fuel like that. It is a good beginner box, but I think he needs to step up.

Running bigger injectors, it is helpful to be able to change the RP. I had an MP8 on mine with the edge, the RP could not keep up. Once I put the smarty on, it was like day and night.

I'll look around and see if I can find some of the old vids I made of the edge...

yeah you may have a boost leak on your truck or a stuck wastegate? spray down your intercooler boots with soapy water and check your wastegate. what tune di dyou load with the smarty that could make a huge difference if it was the tnt tune and your bro has an 03/04 you might have some issues. with popping

We think we found the problem. We found a leak where the intake elbow mounts and it has two gaskets. Should they have two stacked gaskets on the intake manifold? That's where it's leaking, were gonna go get a new one tomorrow. We tried retorquing the bolts but there already pretty tight so were just thinking it's the double gaskets that are bad.

He's going to go ahead and do the cam anyway see if it makes any diffrence along with springs.

Would y'all say pushrods would be a good idea? We were told his truck probly pushing 500hp so the pushrods are highly recommended.

Nope. There should only be one gasket on the manifold.

I hope that's it. Good luck to that, brother. If I was closer, I'd give you one. I've got about 5 of them in the shed.

There should be one gasket on each side of the grid heater/delete.
