need a five inch muffler
need a five inch muffler
the five inch straight is getting to me... I did some looking through threads but havent really found what im looking for... so what is the quietest muffler out there that will still flow well? my dream would to be quiet as stock so i can just listen to that silver 62 spool... suggestions?
you could slap a resonator on, first, and see if that knocks down the drone. if you dont like just running the resonator, then you can put a muffler on it.
I am running a resonator and a muffler, and I like it

I have a Donaldson M090535. It's a straight-through muffler, with a venturi-like choke point that forces exhaust flow around it, recombining at the rear of the muffler canceling the noise.
Benefits of this muffler?
-You can hear the turbine through the exhaust at low throttle because there is no packing to get rid of the high-frequency sounds
-It sounds very deep in the cab, but not too loud until you're towing heavy
-It sounds very good with the windows rolled up
-It's CHEAP! Only about $70 delivered from Ryder Fleet Products.
Drawbacks?
-There is a pffffff noise (for lack of a better term) at idle and any throttle setting caused by the perforations in the core.
-At WOT it does not sound so great, at least with my stock turbo. It does, however, effectively cancel out most of the sound. There is no 3rd gen raspiness to speak of.
Another option is to get a Shuttleworth muffler. I have not heard one in person, but Paul Fox at Defiant Truck Products (he installed my Donaldson) tells me the muffler works just like a Donaldson, but the perforations are much bigger, which negates the "PFFFFF" sound. I had already purchased my Donaldson, otherwise I'd be running a Shuttleworth.
I think Paul is distributing the Shuttleworth. You may want to give him a call.
With all the resonated mufflers, you run into an issue where they soot up and get progressively louder as they age. They also cancel out that killer turbine sound from the exhaust. I'd recommend a mechanical noise-canceling muffler over a resonator style. I've run both, and prefer the Donaldson/Shuttleworth/Aeroturbine designs.
