My Smarty TNT/R review
My Smarty REVO TNT/R review
Quick history: I've used the following downloading/boxes in single and all stackable combinations,
Bully Dog triple dog
Diablo tuner
Predator box boost/rail pressure
Smarty
It's no secret that I like the Smarty the best simply because of better driving manners, more power & lower EGT's
I was reading diesel power today and noticed how BullyDog has a nice two page spread in most of the mags. Honesty I bought my BD because I saw them on the horsepower block on speed. If I would have known about DTR it would have saved me a bunch of headaches and money. Ok back on point I downloaded the new TNT/R version today.
I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be able to adjust rail pressure and timing, TQ management and then have different power levels to choose from on top of all that. I finally don't have to "stack" anything anymore. I only used the predator box for rail pressure but if I used it while daily driving the idle would hang way too long plus it would throw codes when the rpm's would get too low. I only could use it for full throttle racing or doing crazy burnouts. What I noticed is different from the previous version of my smarty tune was it was far less punch. When I say punch it's that too touchy throttle response when the pedal power does not feel linear.
I almost though something was wrong when I was pulling out of the parking lot because at first it felt as if there was less power.....untill I rolled into the throttle. All I have to say is wow.....I literally had a big smile on my face and with all the crap in life sometimes it's hard to smile. I never just punch it so I roll into the throttle and the power is so much more linear and smoothly applied that it was before. But this time I"m roasting tires far more than before. And I can't tell you how sexy it was to see my tach needle bump right up to 4,000 rpm. The engine sounds so good at 4 grand that it literally sings. Really I'm in love at this point. Earlier in the day I had to return my smarty back to stock to get the new tune loaded and drove around town for a bit on the stock software.......what a freakin joke! I know the factory has to make things fuel effecient but since when did making it drive slow, sluggish and just turdy make trucks sell better? I literally couldn't believe how crappy and slow it felt with the stock software even with bigger sticks and compounds.
Marco had simply outworked the competition. I mentioned earlier how BD says in their adverting how they are #1 in performance. Well how or what do they mean by #1? All I see is a company spending millions on advertising and then I come to DTR, learn about a few guys named Marco, Bob Wagner,
DonM and this little tuner box called Smarty. Afterall I have never seen a single Smarty advo anywhere yet you go to the classifieds in DTR and you'll see tons of BullyDog's for sale. BTW I have a bully dog and predator box for sale right now for cheap...lol
Bob at www.smartypower.com was where I got my Smarty and they guy has been nothing but cool to work with. I really can't say the same for Bully Dog customer service. I don't want to talk too much smack though because I must admit Bud Kunz has always been very helpfull as well and I think he has done a good job for what he has to work with. But Smarty is a whole other animal.
I know Marco is the man, but it's also a combo of tallens like Bob Wagner, supporting people like John at floor it diesel and others who have really made this what it is and I'm so very proud to be a part of it all.
Anyone with a good set of headstuds and springs would love the TNT/R tune. I almost hate to let a good thing get too popular because I want to stay one of the fastest trucks around these parts of the woods. But I have to be honest and say that Marco and crew at Smarty truly have no competition when you do a comprohensive, objective comparision between all the tuner boxes out there.
Thank you to everyone involved

You are correct it is not released to most as of yet. You have to be "in" with Bob Wagner to get the REVO TNT/R tune but man is it ever so sweet.
Bob's not holding out to punk anyone but your engine has to be somewhat built to handle the power & revs

Its hard to explain how good it is till you try it. I was just tryin to convince a shop owner in Tulsa that he needs to give it a shot. It is miles ahead of the older 4.4 beta tune I was running.
I couldn't agree More with both Bob and Marco, They both contacted me peronally to get The Revolution working properly on my truck. Last Night I went for a spin on the wet roads with everthing on kill except rail(2) and my truck without fibbing broke the tires loose in 5th gear(4wd) and I actually got torque steer
Thanx Bob and Marco

Trefling:
Great post Sir and to add to what DTR Member "Billm2004" said,.. X3 for me!
Although I don't have the TNT/R or Revolution in my 2006 yet, I couldn't agree more with what you had said about Marco, Bob and "Smarty" as a whole! They are GREAT guys, they give excellent customer service, their R&D never seems to stop and they are here on DTR as well as all the other diesel websites constantly monitoring and helping all their customers as well as customers from other companies! I was also glad to see you post all the other Programmers that you have run as I know alot of new members here maybe "on the fence" in their decision to buy a programmer and IMHO, there is no comparison to what Marco and Bob offer with the Smarty! I have seen more than a few problems with a couple of those you listed and IMHO the "politics" of one of those companies is very questionable.
Anyway, thanks again for your post and evaluation Sir!
