My 16" Aux Cooling fan & A/C performance update....

Several months ago I installed a BeCool 16" pusher fan on my truck to help keep things cool. Member "Spooler" had done this and said in addition to cooling the engine down it also helped the A/C work better by keeping the condenser cooler. Summer was over by the time I installed it so I never got a chance to try it until now. I got a thermostatic control for it so it comes on only when the engine is at about 195 degrees. Well, I can tell you that it definitely works. Hauling the trailer around a couple weeks ago the temps stayed right at 195 degrees and, better yet, even on a 90 degree day the A/C pumps much colder air than it ever did before. I am very happy with this mod. Total cost for the fan and switch was around $120.00. This is just an auxiliary fan and I still have my stock fan in place. You will notice in the picture that I have the whole thing covered in plastic screening to keep the bugs off the intercooler. Well, I discovered that this greatly affected the airflow of the aux fan so I have now cut the screen around the fan and it works much better. It's amazing how simple screen can affect it that much.........

Looks nice, summer is around the corner. Not to hijack, but I am interested in what you have as a CAI?

I have been thinking of aux. fan for mine as well. Just putting around town the a/c doesn't do all that well but going down the hiway with the control set to recirc. it'll blow 40* outta the vents . Thats 40* on a 95 * day. Surely another fan would definitely help with around town efficiency of the a/c.

You do have it coming on with the A/C compressor and temp??? The controller I used had a trigger wire for the A/C and an adjustable thermostate.

Mine just comes on at my desired temp. It has nothing to do with when the A/C kicks on....

Whats the screen for? Is it necessary?

How much clearance did you have between the hood and the back of the motor?

The black plastic screen keeps the bugs from clogging up my condenser. The great thing is that when you hit it with the hose they just fall right off with no effort. The screen may even be hindering my stock fan performance though. I initially had the screen covering the electric fan too but it really cut down on the efficiency so I had to cut the hole out for it. I have considered mounting the screen directly to the backside of the grill but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
As long as my factory fan keeps working right then yes, I think 1300cfm is enough. The temps NEVER go above 195 anymore like they had been doing previously.
The way it is mounted in the picture is the ONLY position I could mount it in where it was not contacting the hood latch assembly.
