I don't know if this has been mentioned, but you need more window tinting. The whole windshield should at least get 50% and then double up on the rear. Its just an idea Wiggs, but if I owned that black beauty that's what I would do.

 

When the camera goes in, I plan to. The front will be done at 35% and the rear I will probably do 20% on top of what I have.

Oh yes. Stealth is the key. People don't need to see inside unless I want them too. If it weren't so expensive, I was going to do some electrochromatic glass in the windows such that at a flip of a switch, my glass would go from translucent to tally opaque!

 

Is is legal to tint the front glass that dark?

 

Is a lot of things that we do legal? I have to ask since I always seem to push it with the law. Seems you have to get caught first, right?

 

Down here, most inspection stations won't pass you (the friendly ones tell you beforehand) if you have more than ~15%(?not sure of exact %) tint on side glass or the windshield.

We had that problem on the Mercedes - the previous owner had tinted the windows, the dealer sold the vehicle that way, and when I went to get it inspected next time it was due, I learned a bit about this.

 

I did mine 5% over the rears, 20% on the front two roll ups and 50% on the windshield. Looks sick, glad I have the power rear slider though. The back up camera will be great once I get some time to get it into the shop.......

I forget where I even heard it from, but I hope that it's true. I do like the hydros much mor ethan electric because, (1) they are underrated for their capacity, and (2) you can run them all day at their max load because they run cool as opposed to electric. That's why I went with the 12K hydro over the 16.5k electric. The 12K worked brilliantly on my H2 and that thing weight almost 9,000lbs. Optimus doesn't weigh much over 9K I would imagine so it should be fine as well.

 

I agree. I hear people say all the time that you cant run them when the vehicle is not running. If your vehicle isnt running, youve got bigger issues than being stuck.

 

That's what I always thought. I'll be the first to admit I am NO mechanic so if my truck isn't running, I am NOT going to be the one fixing it so it's no knock on a winch if it only works when the truck is running!

 

I use the hydraulic winches because I prefer their duty cycle (100%) and longevity. What good is 100' of line pull when you can't reel it in all at once without waiting for the electric motor to cool down, or w/o draining the battery(s)? The military didn't swap all of the electric winches on the HumVees out for MileMarker hydraulic winches for nothing, you know!

For light-duty applications, electric winches are fine.

 

That's very similar to the logic I used when I got my first one 4 years ago!
