Exclamation Optimus a Class 4 truck ?!!??!

I registered Optimus the other day and because of the weight and everything, I am now a Class 4 vehicle!!! Is this normal? The only "good" thing I can see is that I am registered up to 23,500 lbs.!

I registered in PA, but she also let me get the vanity plates even though you are not allowed to do that on a vehicle that has a GVWR greater than 9,000!

You are right, I do have Semi wheels and tires, I was just shocked! A Ford F650 is only Class 6; so is a Kenworth T300.

There is no class that by itself requires CDL; it's all based upon comercial or provate use. That's why Motorhomes or even Toterhomes that have Class 8 rigs can be driven without CDL as long as they display "Not For Hire" as per PA state laws.

I only think they came (not sure about currently) with the same 5.9 that's in our trucks. For some reason, they dropped the 8.3. I don't know if Cummins even makes it anymore.

You know how states have laws on how high your bumper can be? That's why a bunch of trucks with HUUUUUGE lifts have those ugly bumpers hanging way down in front and back, those are to make them street legal. However big commercial or industrial vehicles don't have to follow the bumper height laws. I'm not sure about the class 4, but it MAY exclude you from it too, so you could put on 100" of lift if you want!

If you mean something bigger than class 8 like the huge trucks they use in strip mines and such I would guess you're right. If you're talking about 18 wheelers you're wrong. They call the bumpers on big truck trailers "D.O.T. bumpers". They don't call them that for nothing. There is a regulation somewhere in that little green FMCSR book on the mandatory bumper height for commercial trucks you can count on it. But Wigg's rig is not a commercial truck as far as I know so he would be exempt from having to roll through weigh station scales and being subject to DOT scrutiny. The only thing he'd have to worry about is some Barney Fife enforcing an arcane state law but I wouldn;t lose any sleep over it. Just pay the ticket it ever comes to that and continue with breaking that law. In the past this was always my method on illegal window tent

The 8.3 Cummins is live and well in the Case International MX Magnum series of tractors. It is one Heck of a motor

I was told it is based strictly on weight and that the computer decides based on that, not the people, so supposedly there is no room from human error. Who really knows though.
