muffler replacement
Heard a powersmoke the other day that just sounded mean. Real deep and throaty, actually made me look until I saw it was a PSD. My CTD is just too quiet. I need to change the muff something bad. What could I put on that wouldnt make me go nuts in the cab? I wanna retain my cat for legality sakes you know.

IMHO A MEP from Geno's (just a prebent 4" pipe to replace your factory restrictor) is a great way to go. The cat makes a pretty good muffler on it's own, a little to good if you ask me. Some will say that they get a droning sound in the cab but I have not (even while towing). I think it matters a bunch where/how your tailpipe exits, best if it is past the body and up close to the body. Many say a slightly extended tip will take care of the droning as well.

dodgezilla04,
Check with some of the guys here that have installed the MBRP direct replacement performance muffler on their 2004.5+ Dodges. It's built from 409 stainless just like the stock pipes, it has the welded hangers on it like the stock muffler does so it goes easily into place. All you have to do is remove the stock muffler and put it in, no clamp on hangers or make it fit issues, a TRUE bolt in replacement! Some of the kist out there are base mufflers with add on pipes that will work, but are a will not not a direct fit replacement. Plus our price is such that we are actually less expensive than most of the will fit kist out there. the muffler is packed with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool so the hammer down sound is great, but the normal driving sound is basically stock. We also have the cat test pipes for off road use and racing etc in 409 SS and aluminized. Call us if you have any questions etc we have sold out ever time we get them in stock and members here and at other Dodge sites just love them.

Aeroturbine 4040L
We have an Aeroturbine 4040L stainless steel kit which uses the Aeroturbine 4040L with 6" resonator at the inlet and comes with a SS off-set pipe hanger and clamps. Just sawsall the cat at the outlet leaving about 4" of straight pipe and install the Aeroturbine right on the outlet of the cat and connect the off-set pie to the tail pipe. These sound great with no drone and really help to cool EGTs.

I went with the aeroturbine and I'm very happy. Little in cab noise while cruising, but when you get on it, it lets you know. Sounds very tuff. I wish I could let someone drive it by me to hear it from the street but.... I just can't....

Just installed my Aero turbine Tuesday. 2" from the Cat-(still intact), 4" factory pipe all the way back to the $90.00(ouch) Aeroturbine stainless tip.
I have to agree with Car_nut and Trik396 sounds great from the drivers seat!
I was kind of dissapointed that it was not louder while cruising but it will bark when stomped on!
Trik 396 do you notice a better feel in the pedal? I'm thinking 10-15 hp off the bottom? Maybe due to the loss of the 50 lb stock muffler

I think mine was shorter than 26". I have the 4040 not the 4040L. The "L" has the resonator. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure seemed shorter.
I don't know if I feel it in the sotp but it sounds much better and that can fool ya. I'm sure it'll help once I install the XZT from quad.

Anyone here install the 4040 exhaust kit from Diesel Power Products themselves? Just wanted to get an idea of how much of a pain it is to do before I actually order one. thx !
