Okay, the exhaust came into today, and the only things that i have bad to say about it are the high price of shipping ($44) and the fact that it weighs alot.

Other than that, it was good. the hangers were quality, as were the tubing. The instructions were detailed enough that anyone with no mechanical knowledge could understand them. I liked the fact that the muffler delete pipe came with the kit even though I probably wont take the muffler off. I was skeptical about using the muffler because i wanted a good sounding truck; however, the exhaust sounds great with the muffler. It has a real rich tone that isnt offensive while cruising. In fact, while cruising at 65 you cant even tell the exhaust is there until you hit the go pedal. On the same note, spool-up has a noticable increase, and I have noticed around 1 mpg increase in fuel economy.

Even if you dont desire a 5 inch exhaust, i would still give the four inch a shot. I can honestly say that I am pleased with the product, and will recommend it to anyone.

The muffler delete sounds like fun to me. But here's the CT state law and we have inspections here. Do you guys live in states where they don't have laws like this or maybe they don't check?

My fun is ended for today...

BlackJeep

Sec. 14-80. Mechanical equipment. (a) Each motor vehicle and the devices on such vehicle shall be operated, equipped, constructed and adjusted to prevent unnecessary or unusual noise.

(b) Each motor vehicle operated by an internal combustion engine shall be equipped, except as hereinafter provided, with a muffler or mufflers designed to prevent excessive, unusual or unnecessary exhaust noise. The muffler or mufflers shall be maintained by the owner in good working order and shall be in use whenever the motor vehicle is operated. No person, including a motor vehicle dealer or repairer or a motorcycle dealer, shall install, and no person shall use, on a motor vehicle, a muffler or mufflers lacking interior baffle plates or other effective muffling devices, a gutted muffler, a muffler cutout or a straight exhaust except when the motor vehicle is operated in a race, contest or demonstration of speed or skill as a public exhibition pursuant to subsection (a) of section 14-164a, or any mechanical device which will amplify the noise emitted by the vehicle. No person, including a motor vehicle dealer or repairer or a motorcycle dealer, shall remove all or part of any muffler on a motor vehicle except to repair or replace the muffler or part for the more effective prevention of noise. No person shall use on the exhaust system or tail pipe of a motor vehicle any extension or device which will cause excessive or unusual noise.

BlackJeep,

Your turbo is a muffler.

I live in a state (along with many others) in which the Police have better things to do. Heck, I know of a member here who is State Trooper and has stacks! (not mentioning any names of course).

I wouldn't worry, worst they can do is pull you over and write an equipment work order to make you put it back on.

Hey Blackjeep, look into the magnaflow diesel mufflers. They look just like the mufflers that come with any other exhaust, except they are just a straight pipe with ceramic packing, no vent holes or baffles.

Along the lines of your state law, bummer man. If I were you, i would buy the muffler from magnaflow, it has the straight pipe sound, but the ceramic packin outside of it just cuts down on the in-cab resonance.

Plus, I have yet to see johnny law crawl on his back under one of our trucks to check for a muffler. And with the magnaflow, he would have to take the whole exhaust apart to see if there were any baffles in it...the possibility of those things happening are slim to none. And he cant get you on anything because you could say, "Officer, i have a muffler!"

I ordered the muffler delete pipe online and I'll put it in myself.

If it attracts too much attention then I'm going to add one of the Aero mufflers. I read good things about them in this forum and liked the sound clips online.

I'll let you know how things turn out. I'll also have to find a friendly inspection station... :-)

I put the RPM muffler delete pipe on this evening. I was afraid it was going to be too loud, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. It sounded fine, no 65 to 75 drone at all. My '06 Mega has a little resonator right over the rear axle that my '05 QC didn't have, which may be helping a little. Getting the stock muffler off without destroying it is lots of fun. I just reused the stock clamps. I going to keep an eye on it for a little while to see if I need to add a hanger, but it is so much lighter than the OEM muffler it may not need it. I ordered it yesterday about 11AM, and UPS dropped it off this morning. $65.00 Total, tax and all.

I don't have any drone on my truck. My '06 Mega has a little factory resonator right over the rear axle that my '05 didn't have which is probably specifically for the drone issue.

I don't have what I think is a drone per se', I do get some resonation from back there when I need to down shift, or get on it at lower rpms. As everyone else states though, at highway speeds there is little or NO difference in the cab. (outside? that's a different story )
