My buddy and i took a little propane torch and heated up the crimps and wiggled and turned the tail pipe, with the heat it pulled out the crimps and we did the same on the muffler and now i can switch back and forth if need be! Muffler is in great shape and it took about 1hr and we were goin for a test drive! I put a jack with a piece of 2x6 on the pipe infront of the muffler to hold the pipe from wigglein around at the turbo when we were workin on the muffler, just was afraid of somethin happing up there! Better safe than sorry!

Well, my question is what clamps did ya'll use? Did you use the factory ones, new ones from RPM or band clamps? I've got some band clamps on order so I hope they will work. Has anyone used a band clamp for a tip?

Personally,

don't use the crappy clamps from RPM. They not only dent the heck out of the pipe, but they dont' seal very well at all. I've used band clamps in the past and they have worked wonders! This time though, since i used the clamps from RPM, I've had to weld the connections to prevent leaks, where as if I would have been smart and used the band clamps, I would have no leaks and still be able to take the exhaust apart without using a torch.

That is why i went with the one from genos, it comes with a band clamp and has the hanger on the clamp itself and i used one of the factory clamps and have had no problems what so ever!

Well in RPM's defense, the clamps were $5 ea extra and isn't the Geno's kit like $50 more. I could have gone down and bought some band clamps for a lot less than $50. I guess i just wanted it all in one package. I"m sure the Geno's kit is nice but not too sure it's worth the $50 bucks. The bottom line is the clamps from RPM are crap.

I was gonna say that.

I used the factory clamp (just didn't get all gorilla with them).

The have to be worse than what RPM was selling.

Heck, if I change my mind I can buy some pretty nice clamps with my extra $50.00

ON EDIT: I AM sure that neither kit is worth what they are selling them for, at the same time I can't justify a mandrel bendering around the house either.....

Two days ago I installed the MBRP Pro Series 304 Stainless steel full 4" deal from the stock turbo to tip. The kit came with three really cheesy clamps that where plated mild steel. Tossed them in the garbage and picked up three 4" wide by 4" dia. band clamps with a formed step in them to account for the difference at the slip joints. Spent all of $7.00 each for them from my local Freightliner parts dept. Why would anyone not use a band clamp, cheap, removeable, same metal, no crushing and seals the best cause it will help pull the tubing into alignment. By the way guys this is the best fun mod so far. I know I have not really gained anything HP wise really but my exhaust temps are down 100F and boost comes on quicker. Plus the best part is I look for those fart canned ricers. Had a little play time with one today on a hill. WOT I think I drowned out his sub woofer

Well like i said before when i was gonna go with RPM, with two clamps and there so called free shipping and some kinda high price handeling fee it was gonna run me $98, so i just thought for another couple bucks i could get a good clamp with a hanger(welded to it) and just use one of the factory clamps, IMO this was the better deal for me and i feel better having the hanger under there.
Im not tryin to bash anyones opinions here, was just givin some insight from my experience!

H Brown,

I live in Leander. I'll be in Georgetown tonight, my wife and I play in a softball league. Your more than welcome to come by and listen or we could set-up a time. My email is Vortec2@aol.com.

I just ordered a 5 inch system from RPM, and they slapped a big fat 10 dollar handling fee on me on top of the 50 dollar UPS shipping, and the 45 dollar Texas Sales Tax. The system was advertised at 360 dollars, I got out of there with a 480 dollar exhaust. Booooooo...no i dont have enough to get a Brute Force Intake...darn.
