Its not a commercial vehicle just my toy and daily driver. As Oldmikegraham said earlier it is the law. My wife works at the Sherrifs department and she has checked on it for me before. I believe that it is really just a probable cause to pull you over to check on other things. It doesnt bother me as far as that goes.

So you're complaining that he is doing exactly what he gets paid to do? Does anyone complain about you doing your job correctly? and then blame you for it? when you installed the larger tires on your truck, you should have done the responsible thing and cover the rear with mud flaps. I've had to replace two windshields from people not doing what they are supposed to do and install the proper mud flaps. The law wasnt designed to make your truck look goofy, it was designed for the protection of others behind you. If you want the correct answer to your delima, go down to the nearest DPS office and ask to speak to a commercial enforcement officer or inspector, see what he says the law is. Correct what you need to, revisit the inspector and get his business card. Carry the card with you after you correct the truck so if you still get pulled over, you show the officer the business card of the inspector/officer. The average officer will not take it any further than that if you contacted the inspector. If you still get a citation, go back to the inspector and have him sign it off. Give officers a little credit for what they do, think about what they do... they dont know you at all and when needed, will risk thier own life to save yours.. would you do the same for someone you dont know?? and of course they have something better to do, but they're not doing it cuz they had to work..

r u using this as a commercial vehicle? if so maybe thats the problem[/QUOTE]

law here requires all duallies to have mud flaps on the last axle wether commercial or not. all tho i noticed none of the school buses have them. if your truck has a trailer on it and the trailer has flaps then nothing can be said. but no trailer must have mud flaps. hew about the hieght law never heard about the width requirement.

Got a ticket for it 2 months ago in a town just outside of Denton, got my court date for Dec. 1st, figured might as well try to get the $115 dropped. That was the first time I have ever been pulled over for no mud flaps and I have not had any on the truck since 2002. Even when I have been pulled ovr in the past they never have said anything. But in this case it was the only reason I got pulled over.

First of all to "J", before you start bashing and acting like your my father or something, learn how to read. I have more than once said on here that they were just doing there job and was not saying anything bad about the DPS officers. This thread was to get opinions and info about where to buy bigger mud flaps not to talk about the law. I know what the law is here. Other than that it was just simply something to tal about.

DOT, State Police, County Sheriff Depts, Local Police ALL NEED REVENUE. In just the past couple years, we have ALL been seeing a rise in getting trucks compliant to the laws. It is a good idea for everyone to take the time and research your state laws, cross reference them to the DOT laws, and make sure you are going down the path of least resistance. Don't give them a reason to pull you over, they will certainly look for other things, better to be squeaky clean about all this stuff.

I have a SRW, am using H2's with my 10" wide BFG's, they dtuck out about an inch past the wheel well. I installed the Powerwagon flares AND a set of duraflap mud flaps all the way around. The weight class of even the SRW suggests we do not fall into the light truck class. Better to comply with the next class up anyway. It won't be long that they will change the laws and the light trucks will have to comply with the next truck up in class.

If you have more of an off-road tread, it really does matter to the guy behind you getting stone chips, etc - I see mud flaps as a courtesy to others.

The fellow at duraflap will custom make any size flap you need. The duraflaps can be purchsed pre-drilled for our fenderwells. By the way, the dura flaps are aboslutely great flaps, mine have been on for almost 3 years and still look like new.

I even have mud flaps on my RV and GN trailers, again just a courtesy to the guy behind me.

I agree and think just common courtesy to have mudflaps, esp on lifted trucks or ones with oversized tires. I've gone to the local international truck store and bought big rig mud flaps and modded them.

Robert.. when you say "dont they have something better to do" it sounds to me like you're laying the blame on them for pulling you over.... aside from that, i have a set of mud flaps for a dually, if you're willing to pay the shipping, you can have them. I dont have a dually anymore and i would rather see them go to another member that needs them than have them sit on the side of the house taking up space..
